(Solved) - brake lights out, shift interlock solenoid clicking when brake applied
Please help. Brand new to the forum. I have seen some posts that have some similarities but I don't think quite the same as my situation. If I missed something please bear with me and kindly point me to it.
I have this great little 2005 Civic EX SE I bought a couple months ago to eventually hand over to my daughter. I just had the timing belt done today at a shop I hadn't used before. I picked it up at closing time so I won't be able to talk to them about it until Monday. When I picked it up the shop owner told me I had 2 brake lights out but the 3rd brake light (in the spoiler) works. On the way home I stopped to check the bulbs and replace if bad. The bulbs looked perfect but I bought a set anyway just in case. While at the auto parts store I noticed a clicking sound from the center console area near the shifter that I definitely had not heard before. I figured it must have something to do with the shifter locking mechanism because the clicking sound happens when running, in park and I press the brake pedal. When I got home, I tested the voltage at the brake light plugs and there is no power going to them when the brake pedal is pressed. I checked the brake light fuse just in case the lower two lights are on a different circuit than the 3rd light in the spoiler which I though would have been really weird but I wasn't sure and figured I would try to check everything I could.
Has anyone seen this before or can suggest what to check next?
Thanks for any help!

Re: Please HELP - brake lights out, shift interlock solenoid clicking when brake appl
Both brake lights and the third center brake light all share power and ground. They all get power from fuse 7 (15 A) in the under-hood fuse box, controlled by the brake pedal switch.
My guess, a fault brake pedal switch. The center brake light is LED meaning it doesn't require much current to run, the relay is clicking because it just gets enough power to turn on but then loses it. The other two brake lights don't come on at all because they are standard halogen bulbs requiring more current that can't be provided.

Hi all, so I figured it out. A little delay in posting - been super busy this last week. Just wanted to post in case this happens to someone else. The mechanic that did the timing belt either removed and did not properly reconnect/fully re-seat the ABS module connector or at the very least accidentally somehow got the connector disrupted or partially unseated. I started looking around the area of the timing belt and of course noticed the module there with the wiring and connector. At first I was thinking maybe a damaged wire or something. I did actually notice there was a zip tie that was snugged down really tight over the bundle of wires at the end near the connector and was thinking maybe something with that. But then I started just checking the connector and decided to just slide the lock out, pull the connector, inspect and put it back together making sure it went back correctly as best I could tell. As soon as I had the connector fully seated I stepped on the brake pedal and - Yay! BRAKE LIGHTS! It would make sense to me for a bad/no connection there to affect the brakes but it seems weird that it would affect the brake lights.
I did call the shop after the weekend (spoke with the owner, not the guy that worked on it) complaining of all the time I spent online and troubleshooting on the vehicle and told him about the connector. He was talking a bit fast and mumbling something (I think) about whether the mechanic would even have to mess with that connector. All I know is I had brake lights before and that connector is right there, where they were working and I have brake lights again after properly seating that connector.
Also, BTW, I guess that shifter interlock solenoid clicking has been there and I just didn't notice it. I guess I just noticed because I was paying more attention trying to figure out why the corner brake lights were out. I can't believe I'm saying that as I was so sure I hadn't heard it before.
Anyway -
Thank you to Admin sdaidoji for moving the post.
And thank you to BrotatoChip for the response.
