Transmission issue

Hey guys, thank you for reading my post.

my friend has a 2002 Honda Civic LX and it was having bad misfiring on cylinder 2. I replaced coils, fuel injector, cleaned butterfly door, just to find out that it was a cheap spark plug and coil set he bought from Amazon. Anyway I fixed the misfire and he drove it for 2 weeks and was chilling saying the car was much more powerful than before. He was on his way to work one morning and said he started the car, put it in gear, and nothing happened. He pressed on the gas 2 more times until it starts creeping forward. He thought it was weird but kept driving. One block from the house on a red light, the car would not move. The engine revs as if it is in neutral. We had to tow it home and it sits in his driveway. Is this low tranny fluid? Under the car is wet but now brown as if it was oil and he did say he did hit dips in the road pretty hard. When I shift the gear from park to drive/reverse or any gears I can feel it engage but nothing happens. I am thinking this is low tranny fluid and it cannot build pressure to shift. Do you guys know where I could check it and if I should lift the vehicle?
thank you guys so much
Mack

Re: Transmission issue

Have you checked for codes yet? Let me know when you get P0730.

Wouldn't hurt to check the fluid level but I'm pretty sure that code will pop up.

I heard that that code basically means time for a new transmission lol. I apologize but I forgot to mention when I plugged my scanner up it did not bring any codes. The only thing it showed was from the misfire that I fixed a couple weeks ago. The car also has no error codes on dash

edit: the car has 150K on it

Re: Transmission issue

I was doubting a worn transmission part because the car only has 150 and these Hondas go a pretty long time. He said he never had to the transmission served when he bought it 2K miles ago and does now know if the previous owner did either

erm, the early 7th gen cars are famous for failing auto trans and headgaskets...
we created a section specifically for that...

ahh man I see. If it’s not low on tranny fluid what else could it be before I have to go to a junkyard and get a transmission. Could it possibly be an ECU?
the code scanner did not bring any codes so I’m kinda doubting. Would stop slip maybe help if I he trans is not leaking

Re: Transmission issue

drain and refill trans fluid 4 times (no flush, as per honda's recommendations.)
if that does not work, 2004+ trans swap
filter gets clogged. it's internal.
read the threads in the link i posted

awesome. I’ll get on that. Thank you so much for your help so far FRSSam . Is it particularly hard to drop the trans on these 4 speeds? Do you think I should attempt to rebuild it or just forget about it and go buy a trans from the junk yard
thank you guys so much for answering my stupid questions haha no other forum has been this polite to me xD

Replacement is the move in this scenario. 2004+ if you can find one. They're a bit better.
