Please help!!! 4th speed sensor that wont stay in trans..
So as the title says, I'm going crazy trying to figure out why this is happening but I have a '02 Civic LX that just recently started having some problems, the common problems that are caused by a faulty VSS, no speedometer, rough shifting, check engine light on. So after running a diagnostic and confirmed it was a code for "transmission speed sensor error range performance" or something like that, I look under the hood and see the speed sensor isn't even in the hole and is just hanging off the tranny by just the wiring harness plug and apparently the mounting bolt had broken off of it so I get a new one from autozone and installed it right there in the parking lot. I didn't even make it all the way back to my house before my speedometer stopped working again, open the hood to see the brand new one had snapped the mounting bolt and was hanging out again completely out of the hole. Under warranty I got a replacement from autozone , hoping that it was just a fluke that maybe I didn't push it down all the way to where the o-ring was in, or maybe it didn't have an o-ring because it didn't now and I couldn't remember seeing one. So with the new replacement I made sure to push the sensor down as far as it would go with a lot of pressure, I even made a special bracket to put on it so that the mounting bolt wouldn't snap off and after everything it was pushed out once again snapping the mounting bolt. Why would it be doing this? Why is it being physically pushed out? Of the transmission? The vehicle speed sensors aren't malfunctioning electronically but rather they won't stay in no matter what I do..
