vss sensor

vss sensor

I once unplugged the vss sensor and drove with it out and it seemed to affect nothing, the speedometer still worked and the rev limiter was still working. so what is the purpose of it?

VSS vehicle speed sensor under the intake on tranny next to the big bolt
