Speed sensor installation question please [solved]
Speed sensor installation question please [solved]
2004 civic
2 Door DX 4 speed Automatic Transmission
https://estore.honda.com/honda/parts/view-honda-parts-catalog-detail.asp?m=2004-civic-2-dx-value-pkg-4at&sn=&b=ATM07&dl=#
The speed reading on my dashboard works intermittently where sometimes work, goes up and down on its own or stop reading speed while I’m driving
the above Estore.Honda lists only one sensor for my car, have I read the diagram correct ?
Yesterday I removed the speed sensor part #20 in the diagram
my question is when I install the new one, do I need to align the sensor gear teeth with the gear inside the transmission and if Yes, how can I do that? Is it easy to do ?
the reason I ask the question is, I watched multiple videos on YouTube where people just place the new sensor through the hole and then bolt it.
Thanks in advance

Re: Speed sensor installation question please
thanks for the reply
I got an used speed sensor off a car at the junk yard and this one didn’t work. The speedometer on the dash board doesn’t move while I’m driving
I ordered a new after market one from Amazon and Thai one also did my work
In all the three cases, original sensor, used one from the junk yard or the new after market, the odometer work (change while driving ) and the car shifts normal but the speedometer doesn’t work
Does anyone have ideas for me to help troubleshooting the issue ?
Thanks in advance

Re: Speed sensor installation question please
Forgot to mention that I have a bad oxygen sensor code P0135
I don’t know if this is related or not but it’s been not working for long time and the speedometer was just fine

Re: Speed sensor installation question please
O2 not related to speedo.
Check the wiring for the sensor, and the gauges, there should be a test function for the gauges (you'll have to look it up)
Do you still have your original sensor? Or the new OEM one?

Re: Speed sensor installation question please
Today, I replaced the instrument cluster and the speedometer is working along with the other gauges. I removed an used one from a car at the junk yard.

Re: Speed sensor installation question please [solved]
you will be losing 35k miles then, anyway better to check laws, they might work regardless of the direction of the difference

Thanks Sir
I live in KY so I’ll call the DMV
Just a curious question please
At the junk yard, I found a 2005 civic with guage cluster that has RPM gauge, my car doesn’t have that
if I install this cluster in my car
will it get plugged or the plug has more pins ?
Will it work and show the RPM readout ?
Thanks
