Pops out of 5th

So just got this 02 Civic ex. And it started to pop out of 5th gear and it won't shift into reverse weather the car is running or not. Can't hold it into 5th when driving without it pushing back and grinding. So would it seem my synchros or gears are shot? I'm not familiar with Honda's. I have two classic Jeeps and the 02 mini. Is there anything else I should be looking at before swapping the trans. I did notice that my linkage cables have been adjusted as much as they can. Just changed the fluid and well it was almost empty and and very dirty

The low fluid probably damaged the trans, you could rebuild it, or buy another one for under $200 and spend a day swapping it in your driveway. Male sure you grab another VTEC trans if you want the same shorter gear ratios.

Read through all of this link, and especially ezone's replies concerning the shifter pivot ball: https://www.civicforums.com/forums/3...-problems.html

Re: Pops out of 5th

Popping out from my experience, is usually an external issue.

-bad transmission mounts/torque mount,or, bad engine mounts

-bad shift linkage bushings

-brocken/worn linkage connections to the shifter

Re: Pops out of 5th

So I took off the center console today and found this. Is this maybe the cause of my 5th and reverse problem? Also the linage in the pic seems very loose. I can move it side to side very easily. And it looks like maybe no rubber bushing in it
