New to my 2002 EX automatic - maintenance questions

I just bought a 2002 EX Coupe, Automatic for $500 with 167000 & no maintenance records.

I'm getting ready to buy 12 qts of Genuine Honda ATF, & I plan on doing several drain & refills on the Automatic Transmission, over the course of a year. I'll also buy replacement crush washers.

I'm also interested in installing an "Inline ATF Filter" to the car.

Any advice on changing 3~ish quarts of ATF at a time over the course of a year?
Any yeas / nays on installing an inline ATF filter? If yes, do you recommend the INPUT or OUTPUT hose for the transmission? Any special bracket to buy / fabricate or a good place to zip tie secure it?

Thank You

Do the 3 drain and fills one after the other, take it for a 10-15 min drive between each one to get the fluid up to temp and engage all the gears

Re: New to my 2002 EX automatic - maintenance questions

Three times drain and fill with Honda DW-1 ATF on eafter the other, as mentioned. Then a drain and fill every 3rd oil change would be good practice. Running until torque converter lockup. Engage reverse gear at some point as well. Wipe off clutch debris from magnetic drain plug each time.
An external in-line ATF filter is above and beyond and I have used a Magnefine ATF filter spliced inline after the ATF cooler (in case debris in the cooler already) in as Odyssey. I didn't feel the necessity to do it on my current 03 EL.

I have 2 genuine Honda in line ATF filters already. If you can convince me I need it, I might be interested. For example, does it include a mounting kit / bracket, like found on later generation Civics?

Re: New to my 2002 EX automatic - maintenance questions

It's a Magnefine brand filter that I purchased for a 6th gen Civic I had a few years ago. I tried to make it inline with the transmission hoses but couldn't without the hose bending too much for my liking. The other option was to cut a piece of the metal atf return tube above the transmission and use a flare tool to bend the metal tubing properly to accommodate the magnifine filter 3/8" rubber hoses. However, never got around to doing that.

I bought two of those atf filters at the same time with the intent of installing one in my mom's 7th gen Civic. I haven't got that around to installing that one either...lol.
One concern I would have is it may change fluid pressure? I do a 3x3 drain and fill on her car every 30k miles so I am not too concerned at this point about filtering the fuid anymore.

I'm going to pass on the Magnefine Filter. Did you also plan on installing a transmission cooler with the Magnefine Filter? If so, what was / is your mounting plan?
