I have a 2005 Civic VP and I replaced the transmission mount. The old mount had a cast iron piece of steel that was held onto the top of the mount with 2 small bolts. The new mount did not have ears welded on that it mounts to. When I looked where this piece of steel sits on the transmission mount, it does not touch, support, or appear to do anything. What is this little piece of cast iron for, and does it do anything. My thought was that this is something for a manual transmission, or for a different model that Honda found it easier to just use one mount for all of them. Could someone give me some insight on what this does, and why the majority of the replacement mounts that are made do not have the provisions to put it on.
Thanks for the response. I guess if there is a vibration issue, I can tack weld the mount onto it. It is weird that a 6oz piece of metal would really make that much of a difference.
