P0339 and will not rev over 3k

Hey all,
I recently acquired a 2005 Civic EX D17A2 and it's throwing a code for the Crankshaft Position Sensor. I'm rather new to the Honda ownership world so I apologize if this is quite succinct.

It throws the p0339 code, has a hard time starting, and whenever I hit anything near 3200 rpm where I understand the VTEC crossover is, its like a very rough limiter, like the car is bucking.

It will buck under any kind of "halfway" acceleration, either putting my foot to the floor or barely pressing the pedal at all makes it the smoothest.

I'm thinking something to do with the crank sensor, but could I be wrong in thinking it has something to do with the VTEC solenoid too?

Any and all insight is more than appreciated. Thanks!

ECU in limp mode because of the sensor.
Don't buy any sensor that is not denso or ntk, hondas no like aftermarket electronics.

If I replace the sensor and it doesn't work is there anything else you recommend I look for or try to replace at that point? Or would it be a PCM issue?

just replace and go from there. It is not uncommon to see people needing to replace. It is 19 year old car...
