02 Civic EX Vtec 5 speed manual P0336 HELP!!
Hello I have a 02 civic ex vtec manual with 195,000 miles. I originally had the code for a crank sensor p0335. I replaced it with honda part# 37500-PLC-015. After replacing everything I went to start the car and it ran better but still rough. Now I have code p0336. The car limited the rpm to 3500 and it blew black smoke out of the exhaust tip. Also if you turn it on once and try to turn it on again it takes a while to start again. I read that the timing could cause this so I replaced the tensioner with a oem part and replaced the belt and lined up the marks. I also replaced the crank sensor wire connector. After starting the car it ran a little smoother but it still was limited to 3500 rpm and black smoke out the exhaust. Then I replaced the main computer relays and the computer and ignition switch and the car runs the same. Now I’m at a point where I need my car to work and I Need help. The car still has the p0336 code. Please somebody help me.

Also, that sensor is sensitive as all hell. I accidentally torqued it down too much and it caused the sensor to go bad. My experience at least

Re: 02 Civic EX Vtec 5 speed manual P0336 HELP!!
Erase the code,
Run the engine,
how long does it run before the p0336 sets again?
Does the engine rev up normally--- as long as the p0336 code has not set? (assuming it didn't reset immediately)
Was the new crank sensor connector actually brand-spankin-new, or did it really come from a recycle yard? A used part could have brought along new problems such as corrosion in the terminals, and your own handiwork splicing this pigtail in adds another area of possible connection issues to consider. (twist n tape is not reliable IMO)
Could the crank pulley have a damaged timing tooth?
