05 civic lx 1.7l non vtec will not rev past 4000
Go home from work I was trying to speed up to get into a lane and as soon as I hit the gas to speed up my car hit 4000 and started to stutter also check engine light come on shortly after.

Sounds exactly like a cam / crank sensor has become unstable when hot.
My guess is the camshaft because I think when the crank sensor fails the max RPM is limited 2500.
Get the code read at your local auto parts store, but only buy those sensors directly from Honda if you want a trouble free repair. This board gets a amazing amount of new users because of non-Honda sensors making people think something mysterious is going on. Don’t get me wrong, surely “most?” Aftermarket will work, but is it really worth your time and effort to gamble?
