Howdy y'all, new to the Civic forum... Just got my first Civic to use as a economy car when I don't need my truck. Anyways it's a 02 with a 1.7 l. I recently pulled the head to replace the head gasket and do some other maintenance... I use a bag for all my big projects and after the Honda I found this in the bottom and I'm uncertain if it went to the Honda or if it's just from another project and I missed it.
Nothing worse than finding a random piece after a big job. Didn't think I would like this car as much as I do... I've always had full size trucks.
Speaking from experience; it's mainly the fuel economy. Had to drive a 1500 Hemi for a few weeks while my FR-S was getting body repairs, and while I love driving that truck, I was spending $200+ a week just on fuel.
I did the head gasket on ours in 2021 as well as the oil pan several times and the timing belt. This doesn’t look like any part I can recall. I thought maybe it was part of the oil plug at first but no. Does that ball fit inside the other piece? Almost looks like something from a grease gun or air line to me.

Ya, I spend 50-75 a day on fuel when I'm working. I just like how small it is honestly. I feel like a teenager in it. First things I did was ditch the hub caps, and tint the windows 5 percent. Lol

It does fit in it. It appears to be a check valve. The last thing I did with that tool bag was rebuild the valve body on a Mercury trim pump, but that was a while back and I can't remember... The pump works properly so I reckon it's spare parts.
