Ep3 EML on (and off)

First off new member here so hi 👋

But onto my problem...

So a couple weeks ago the EML came on which put the car into limp mode and wouldn't engage vtec haven't got round to checking it out until recently so I plugged a snap-on scanner into it which brought back 2 codes. Car has been mapped by a reputable tuner.

22: Excessive change of the vehicle speed sensor signal
23: A problem with the engine speed signal circuit

I cleared the codes with the scanner and they haven't come back but the EML was still on...

I did abit of asking around and was told to check the oil because vtec wont engage if it is so i topped that up as it was rather low, i then read that the speed sensor on the gearbox could be naff so i checked that and all seems fine as the speedometer works. Anyway EML was still on at this point so out of curiosity i plugged in a £10 ebay special scanner into it which brought no codes either but caused something near the ECU to click then after turning car on now the EML is off but its still in limp mode? My next move is to check the vtec solenoid to see if anything is up with that... Racking my brain now just wondered if anyone could point me in the right direction? I know it could be anything but any help would be appreciated. Ta.

Ash.

There should absolutely be a fault code if you're in limp mode. Use a better scanner? At least in the US, parts stores will read codes for free.

So you are aware, a missing VSS signal will disable VTEC.

Thanks for the reply mate and sorry for late reply as far as I’m aware the VSS is working because the speedometer works fine could it be my vtec solenoid?

Re: Ep3 EML on (and off)

Speedometer working does not verify the ECU is reading speed properly. You would have to look at live data with a scan tool to see this.
