a good way to check codes?
i was reading through the clubrsx forum and saw a link to a diy to check the codes when the cel throws on but w/o the code scanner. heres the link: http://www.k-series.com/tech_detail.php?Tech_ID=CEL. is this the right way and a good way to do it cause i noe u can do that with obd1 cars but not sure if thats the safest(sp?) way to go.

I have never seen it done that way with OBDII vehicles. Besides, OBDII vehicles use 5 digit trouble codes. So I dont see how that would work anyway. Besides, just go to autozone and have them hook up there scanner for free to read the code. Or buy a $30 scanner that will read codes. It is safer and easier.
it works just as if you do obd1 cars and some older obd2 cars.. but the problem with that it doesnt get into specifics like the regular 4 digit codes give... for example if you have a code to that reads 4 flashes and lets say 4 is your vtec (example only) then you know something wrong with the vtec.. but if you use the scanner it will be more specific with the vtec such as the vtec pressure or the vtec voltage overload or vtec solenoid malfunction.. this is an example but you get the idea
hey I just noticed you had a link to my article! it does work on Honda OBDII vehicles, I have tried it on several different models/years including the Accord & EP3 so no reason to believe it won't work on the 01-03 Civic as well. The OBDII 4-digit codes are more specific, but a lot of times this method will help you narrow in on what the problem is.
