Excessive oil consumption

Good morning. 2003 Honda civic sir 2.0 k20a3 125k on it
I add oil very week. Probably 1/4 to 1/5 of the dip stick weekly
my garage floor has no oil drips
I smell oil when I come to a stop or reverse. Not when I'm driving steady. It's burning oil but where?
suggestions on what to check or do?

I drive it hard daily all the time cant help it with the k/n cold air intake at high rpm. She sounds delightful 😊

Re: Excessive oil consumption

Possibly leaking from valve cover gasket onto the exhaust, then burning off? Take a look at the engine, there should be evidence somewhere.

have you looked behind when driving? You might be spreading a smoke screen and making the cars behind you crash

Re: Excessive oil consumption

Serious note, might be burning in the cylinder (i.e. leakage past the rings). Leakdown test might not be a bad idea

p.s. see if you can gauge how many km it takes you to add a liter. I forgot where I read this, but something like a quart every 1000mi (or was it a liter every 1000km) was acceptable oil consumption. You are taking those dipstick readings on level ground, right?

400 kms a tank 1 tank a week ish adding oil each week ish. I'll look into that leak down test and might have a look at the engine gasket. (I think thats what it's called)

Yes when I check the oil she's on the ground no car jacks 4 tires touching

According to Honda, yes. According to literally anyone else, no.

I was assuming the rings were okay because the engine only has 125k km. They could still be bad though.

I have to add a quart every 200-300 miles on my Prelude. It’s needs to be rebuilt but it’s cheaper to keep adding oil to it for the time being.

That is quite the oil consumption. I hope you're using cheap oil

Re: Excessive oil consumption

Lol oh yeah. Cheapest Dino oil I can find. Amazon or Walmart typically. I’m pretty sure I can just change the filter at my next oil change interval because none of the original oil is in it still.
