Oil being airated

Before changing my oil I checked dipstick to see if losing oil and noticed that the oil on the dipstick is airated. Any suggestions of places to start looking to find the issue?

Re: Oil being airated

What do you see that makes you say it's aerated? (got pics?)

How long had the engine been sitting still (OFF) before you checked the level?

Is the oil level very low, or overfilled?

Re: Oil being airated

Coloration and you can see air bubbles in the oil. Has a slight leak at valve cover but no other oil leaks. It was a little low. Going to clean system using clean oil and keep monitor of it. Checked prolly 5 mins after pulling in shop

Re: Oil being airated

How did someone discover it and complain about it?
What happened prior to this discovery, was some engine related work done?
Is it still aerated after the engine has been run/driven and warmed up?
Is it causing a problem, like low oil pressure light?

About the only ways I can think that oil would aerate is by
1) overfilling and whipping by contact with the rotating assembly
2) suction side air leakage....(akin to a hole in a drinking straw) which might include things such as very low oil level, a caved in oil pan that caused a crack in the oil sump pickup tube, seal leakage between oil pickup and oil pump body, or some weird suction side leakage of the pump assembly itself.

Def not a common complaint that I've seen here.

Sure it's not traces of water or coolant in the crankcase?
