04 Civic intermittent bogging

Hello all, so recently my car has been bogging down when I step on the gas. Its happened 3 times. Twice on the street at medium speeds, I was on 3rd or 4th gear and when I pressed the gas the rpm would go down. The last time this happened it was on the freeway, traffic was moving slow so I was coasting and when I went to give it gas it bogged down like before. The difference this time is it shut down on me and would not start for like 3 minutes.

My car is a manual and currently has p0134 code that comes and goes every 3 days.
Any help or direction will be greatly appreciated!

Re: 04 Civic intermittent bogging

P0134 is for a faulty O2 sensor (I think the one in the manifold). It'll be in limp mode when the light comes on, which is why it won't accelerate properly.

Do not buy an aftermarket sensor. Your issue will persist if you do. Either get Denso or get it directly from Honda.

Re: 04 Civic intermittent bogging

I've replaced the a/f sensor before because for some reason they keep dying on me. I think my car is burning oil and killing the sensor.
But this problem had not shown before even tho the p0134 code was on. I will replace this because it needs it any way. But is there any other checks I can make to make sure its not something else?

Did you buy an aftermarket sensor? The OEM thing applies to all sensors in this situation. These cars are very picky.

Re: 04 Civic intermittent bogging

Yes sensor was a Denso OEM one. Its been on the car for years and it started to fail I would say a year ago but the engine light comes on and goes off on its own after a day or so. I've checked with my scanner and it shows activity for the sensor so I'm thinking it maybe cuts out intermittently and when the computer sees it enough it throws the code.

Thats what has me confused because its been running fine even with the faulty sensor. Until now.

Clogged EGR passages maybe? Or maybe clogged cat, especially if you're burning oil

Re: 04 Civic intermittent bogging

Ok makes sense, I will try cleaning out the egr passages.
I cleaned them about 4 years ago when I did the head gasket on it, but if the rings are dirty and stuck then that means everything is dirty because its burning oil.
Mind you this thing has over 200k miles on it.

Re: 04 Civic intermittent bogging

So my car left me stranded last night. I figured out the fuel pump was not priming before starting.
I got it to run but in the middle of getting home it cut off again.
My next question, what should I be checking before ruling it to be the fuel pump?

Re: 04 Civic intermittent bogging

Check for power + ground at the pump, try supplying the pump with power + ground and see if it works
