CEL + slow shifting in 04 automatic ex after refueling
CEL + slow shifting in 04 automatic ex after refueling
the story begins last wednesday. after refueling, pull out of the gas station, rpms way too high. automatic transmission takes several seconds too long to shift to 2nd. same deal shifting to 3rd. check engine light is on.
pull over and take out the manual. says gas tank cap needs to be turned 3 clicks or cel comes on. ok, i knew that. i've had this car for 9 years.
reseat the gas cap, no change, cel still on, still slow to shift. manual says it may take "up to 3 days of normal driving" for cel to go off after reseating gas cap. wtf?
well anyway, it's still slow shifting, so it probably wasn't the gas cap. decided to wait until today to get the code read since yesterday was the 4th. fluid level looks ok.
on the way over to autozone this morning, cel suddenly goes off and it starts shifting normally, like nothing ever happened.
wtf??
maybe a sensor going out intermittently? but why right after refueling? or do yall think it's unrelated?
any insight would be appreciated. thanks.

Re: CEL + slow shifting in 04 automatic ex after refueling
Often, yes. For a while, it is retained in memory even though the light is no longer on... But after so many run cycles without a failure, it may be cleared automatically. And it depends on what the code and situation was too, but it's worth checking out at any rate.
