Exclamation D17A1 - A2 Sharing Parts

So a while back I had a 04 civic with an A1 moter and i got a master gasket set to rebuild it. I never got around to it, forgot about the gasket set, and ended up getting rid of the car.

Now, I have a 2004 Honda Civic EX 5-Speed. What I want to know is, will some of the gaskets from the A1 gasket set I bought work on the A2 moter? Things like oil seals, valve cover gasket, head gasket, intake and exhaust gasket, ect... Will they work on my A2 moter?

With the exception of the oil pan (a1 uses a gasket, a2 uses Hondabond) and VTEC solenoid (a2 has one, a1 doesn't) I think everything else is the same.

This is what I was thinking as well. Although I did not know about the oil pan gasket. Good thing I got hondabond laying around. That explains why I cant find one at any store.

Re: D17A1 - A2 Sharing Parts

As far as a head gasket kit goes, the only thing with a part number difference is the intake mani gasket.

that said, head gasket, exhaust mani gasket, valve stem seals, spark plug tube seals, camshaft oil seal, water passage gasket are all the same. Part numbers are in the headgasket link in my signature. I'd imagine many of the bottom end gaskets would be the same since the only difference between the -a1 and -a2 blocks is the oil pan and compression ratio of the pistons

wasn't an additional oil passage for the VTEC? Although the headgasket could be the same, just no oil passage in the block.
