No speedo/tach, no gauges, no turn signals, no headlights
No speedo/tach, no gauges, no turn signals, no headlights
I'm rolling along, 75-80, and the speedo, tach, and gauges suddenly stop reading. needles drop to zero and bounce back up again.
This happens repeatedly, at shorter intervals, until the gauges are just zero'd. At the same time, the fan, signals, headlights, and I presume brake lights cease to work. The Recirc, AC, and defroster buttons would flicker together.
When I got off the highway, it was till running, but showing under 8volts. blipping the throttle made no difference to that at all. I made it home, and there was just enough to all up the windows. The starter laughed when I tried it. not even a click.
My first thought was a loose ground to the instruments, but that doesn't explain the low voltage, or the lack of power to the lights.
I checked the fuses without pulling any, and I didn't see any burned. I'll pul them and check tomorrow.
I'm left with alternator, or regulator.
The thing that puzzles me is that some things kept working at the same time as many did not
and just to make it al better? neither manual has any reference to the regulator. Like, say, where it is?
help?
IF it's just an alternator/regulator? that would be a blessing.

Probably the alternator, don't cheap out. And make sure you tighten the bolts or you'll fry the computer.
Re: No speedo/tach, no gauges, no turn signals, no headlights
alternator and regulator just tested good.
I'ma see if there'w enough battery for me to pull codes, and taking the alternator to NAPA for a second opinion.
It's also time to begin checking grounds.
