Question Radio Sometimes Doesn't Turn On

Hello. 2001 Civic EX with aftermarket Boss Radio installed. Sometimes when I turn the key and start car, the radio won't power up. I simply turn back to off, turn back to on and voila! She works?
This car has 263,000 miles on it, and doesn't even skip or shake when stopped at a light! Great beater car, but it is actually in such decent shape, I'm thinking of making it a project car.
Any thoughts on the radio issue? Similar problems out there? Much obliged!

Pull the radio out and have a look at the wiring. I'm going to guess the previous owner did some horrible hack job. Boss is a really cheap brand, I can't imagine they would have spent the extra $15-$20 for a proper conversion harness, let alone make proper connections.

Re: Radio Sometimes Doesn't Turn On

My brother installed the radio... we r both electrical techs by trade with over 30 yrs myself, and he's older...
It seems like its a relay or something, all the connections are good...

Re: Radio Sometimes Doesn't Turn On

I have a Boss double din in my car, I wouldn't recommend. Sometimes when it turns on the whole screen is tinted red, green, or blue. Other times the scaling is completely off and I can only see half the screen and sometimes the entire screen is just blurry. I've even had the screen not turn on at all but sound still comes out the speakers. Your issue may just be a cheap radio.
