Ignition Lock Question 2003
Ignition Lock Question 2003
Hi everyone, I’ve got a 2003 civic lx with the D17 and manual tranny. The car has been sitting for a few years and with moving a couple of times the key has gotten lost. I don’t want to pay a dealer money to cut a new one so I was wondering if I could just switch out the ignition lock that I get from a scarpyard car that has a key. Since the ignition and the key came from an already programmed car would I have to get it reprogrammed to work for my car or is it ready to go? Also I should mention that my car has little to no options (no power windows, no automatic locks, etc.)
If I am capable of just getting an ignition from the scrapyard what ignitions will fit my car other than just a 2003 civic? Just keeping my options open
thanks in advance!

Re: Ignition Lock Question 2003
Get a locksmith to cut the key based on the VIN/keycode and program it,
Changing ignition lock cylinder is a bad idea because you still have to program the key to the ECU
and the new key wouldn't work on doors.

Re: Ignition Lock Question 2003
Otherwise you need key, immobilizer, ecu all from the same car that's the same year, with the same engine and trans that you have. And you'll have to retumble all the other locks to match the new key
Re: Ignition Lock Question 2003
Vin's phone numbers can be easily changed now, but only if you pay very well. If there is already a problem with decrypting the keys then either the services or contacting the dealer will help here. I am more impressed with the first option and if you choose Epicvin vs Autocheck then I tend to the free vin number report service which has helped me out many times
