1999 civic key not staying in locked position to drive when starting, shuts off

I have a problem with my ignition, when I start the car the key won't lock in place in the switch..it shuts off.I have had this happen alot while driving at random in traffic,& it's gotten to where I have to hold my key in place to drive 10 miles to work..
I replaced my ignition lock yesterday and to my surprise it didn't fix it..so I took apart the electronic ignition switch and started it with a straight screwdriver it did NOT stay in place and also shuts the car off..isn't this supposed to lock in place?I am asking for input relating to solving this and wondering if anyone has had this happen to them also, and what fixed it..what part will fix this?, The ignition switch alone?, I am hoping so...
I have been driving 10 miles to work and my hand cramps so bad..no fun.., I am planning on replacing the ignition switch and hope this fixes it,any help and knowledge on this is greatly appreciated ..thanks.

Replace the mechanical part of the ignition switch, I know on the OEM ones you can swap the key cylinder over so you don't need a different key to start the car. Not sure if you can do that with an aftermarket one

Hmm maybe the lock cylinder is worn? Can you pull the key out with the car running?

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

The electrical portion of the ignition is what has the detents. Replace the switch.
Not the column lock and cylinder.
