Smoke & Burn't Electrical Smell under Steering Column

Here is a wierd one for you: On the way to work today, about 15 minutes into my drive, my 01 EX coupe starting smelling like burned electrical components/wiring from under the steering column. I even saw a little bit of smoke. The left-side of the top steering column cover was also warm to the touch.

Through searching, I found a few posts on a headlight wiring replacement recall. Do you guys thing that is the problem? I am the only owner of the car with 100k on it and have never taken it in to the stealer for any recalls.

It would only happen if the headlights were on at the time. (low-beams) I think all of the 01s were affected. The column covers are very tough to remove without breaking the latches on the top cover. I would let the dealer do all the work.

Ya, the low-beams were on at the time.

I'll call the dealer and have them check it out.
