Ghost in the machine?
Ghost in the machine?
I have a 2020 Civic EX 2-door coupe with only one RC key fob that is always in my possession. The fob is kept by itself with buttons turned outward in a small outside pocket of my cargo pants, and there are no other ambulatory people in my household. I keep the car locked and in a locked garage at night (it's set to automatically lock when I walk away, and I listen for the audible locking beep). I never leave the windows or sunroof open, and try to always set the parking brake when I leave the car. When I went into the garage for the first time on April 22, around noon, both windows were fully open, the sunroof was tilted up, and the parking brake was off. I might have forgotten to set the parking brake when I left the car on the 21st, but the windows and sunroof were definitely closed. Has anyone on the forum heard of an event like this in a Gen10 Civic coupe? Is there some kind of RC box out there that would allow a prankster to manipulate my car like this from the street?

A nutton probably got depressed. If you hold down one of the buttons it will roll down the windows, and i guess vent the sunroof. Never owned a honda newer than 05, so I can't comment specifics, but I know you can do this with the newer models.

I almost didn't reply to this post, but then I noticed you were a forum administrator, and figured it was intended to be humor. So your question conjurs two scenarios. One is that you're asking if I fell asleep on the couch during an episode of Yellowstone and somehow wound up facing the opposite direction in a seated position while pressing on my key fob buttons. The answer to that is no. The other is that you're asking if I got likkerd up and passed out in bed with my clothes on, then somehow pressed the magic combination of buttons on the key fob while unconscious; or maybe you're asking if I normally sleep with my clothes on and keyfob in my pocket for a quick getaway, in case the Sheriff shows up with a warrant. The answer to both of those is still no, and by the way, no one has yet come up with said magic button combination that I can test.
Re: Ghost in the machine?
You press the unlock button twice, holding it the second time. Sunroof and windows should open. It's not some complicated code you have to input. Something that could happen with the key in your pocket.

butt calling is common with phones, remote button pressing in pocket is also common...

1. If you release the second button push before the windows & sunroof are fully open, they stop opening, and you can't complete or reverse the process with the fob.
2. Once you have completed the process (either fully or partly), you cannot reset anything you opened from the fob. You have to at least put the car in accessory mode, then manually close the openings with the interior controls.

Re: Ghost in the machine?
Augh! That would not be pretty in my enclosed garage all night. Automatic start was the first modern convenience I disabled from the Home screen display when I took possession of the car, although it would have been handy when I was selling at retirement land dinners in Iowa, the winter of 1972. After each dinner, the locals would all start their cars and leave the heaters running while they went back inside and had a drink, and I learned that from them. Nobody ever had a car stolen. Nowadays, on California's central coast, I can't imagine the trouble that feature would get me into. Remember, I can't even be trusted with the remote for a CR-V liftgate!

...Oops! I spoke too soon. Thanks for the link to instructions for turning off remote window open, but Rensselaer apparently intends them for newer models, because my dash display has no selection for Remote Window Control, even when scrolled completely down. I'll check with the local Honda dealer, but now I'm wondering if Honda slipped this feature into 2020 models in advance of formally offering it, or maybe they added the disabling feature to later models in response to complaints. Not quite as bad as gullwing doors that didn't open on DeLoreans (with people inside), but I still hope to find the formula to disable this "convenience."

Whoa! The Internet is a dangerous thing... check out the TorqueNews article on this exact subject: https://www.torquenews.com/1574/10th...e-goings-night. The article offers no revelations, but the two pages of comments afterward give me hope that I'm not crazy, after all (unless, of course, they and I are all asylum candidates).

Re: Ghost in the machine?
from surfing the google,
- Chrysler cases were linked to a piece inside the fob that came loose and was pressing the unlock button
- some BMW have some anecdotal cases with door wiring? Some a chassis control module or reprogramming
No real solution for multiple Honda models
same for Mini's
several reports that the fob was on a table or hanging and still it opened.

Re: Ghost in the machine?
I agree, and started the process yesterday, but it's not that simple at my local dealership. If I call, I have to leave a message and wait for a return call. If I send an email, it takes several days to receive any response. When I made contact with a Service Representative on the CR-V liftgate random opening, they responded: "We've never heard of that," and "If we can't duplicate it, we can't diagnose it." In my e-mail about the Civic fob yesterday, I included a link to the TorqueNews article. Depending on the local's response, I may be sending the same email to every Honda dealer in my region. I'll report the results back to this thread, if that happens.

Re: Ghost in the machine?
one of the google results had someone reporting that he was lucky and it happened when the dealer had the car in their lot...
Now, the dealer only sells for Honda, Honda does not own the dealers. Not sure if dealers have a network for them to connect between themselves. If so, they depend on Honda to provide information.
Again, this is internet information (although the number of cases in each searched link is... high. And not only Honda
