GTI vs. RSX-S
As far as reliability the ppl in my club bust on the VW's (valid reason for missing a meeting: VW wont start)...I owned an 88 Jetta before my first 95 Civic and it was horrible. To name a few problems, alternator, battery, ac, parts falling off, electrical stuff not working....it sucked. The only reason I looked into the GTi is because my friend has a newer one and I loved the interior...as someone else said id rather have a VW interior over a Honda interior, but quality wise sorry VW's suck.
yeah my friend has a '99 Jetta VR6 and he has all sorts of odd problems with it. also, yeah, I think the GTI looks a bit too goofy for my taste. it's not the cool quirky like the mini, it's just bland and weird all at once. that's just my opinion, though.
VW= cheap german car the same way hyundai = cheap import...
dont buy a wannabe cheap german car, thats not cool...if you want german, save up and go ballz out with a bmw 330 or an a4 atleast....

If you like to drive current or recently released cars go for the RSX-S, the new golf is being prepared and will be releases at the end of 03, so you will only have a current model for one year.
I have driven a vr6 Jetta and to be honest, couldn´t find why the car is so expensive, sure it has a v6, so does a malibu... if you like high engine revs get the rsx, the golf and jetta are kind of toned down even though they have more hp.
For fun to drive, I´ve heard the 1.8 Turbo is better, but prepare to modify the suspension if you want serious handling, they are too soft.

I myself owned a 86 GTI w/ 70,000 mi in 95........EVERYTHING went down hill @ 85,000.........axle's, tranny, starter, alternator, basically the whole elctrical system. (dash lights,....tons of crap)
sold it.(lost money)
Then my dumbass figured I'd go buy another VW. This time 94' Jetta.........
bought w/ 80,000 mi...........@ 100,000 mi..........oh yea SAME THING........5th gear went out in the tranny, (replaced tranny)......electrical......everything went bad....same as my GTI.......dealers couldn't figure it out......they said they wouldn't fix anything cause I brought it in w/ 17" wheels instead of stock...F*CK them.....
sold it.(lost lots of money)
MY girlfriends mom bought a 00' jetta w/ 0 mi. 1 month latter......auto tranny went out.(Thank god the warranty took care of that one)....they actually replaced the whole car.
Two of my freinds hang out w/ everyday.......
1 has a 92 jetta,.(about 100,000mi......tranny problem....(don't know what) but it cost less than 1,000$$ to fix....still sucks though......he had fuel delivery problems also.....nothing to do w/ fuel filter......ended up costing him big bucks.....
other good friend, 89 jetta......everything you can think of went wrong....everything.......(about 110,000mi)......it's sitting in the driveway untouched for months.......
Every single person I know that has owned a VW has had serious problems including myself.
Thats why I bought a Honda, I was sick of fixing VW's......
Parts to VW's.......Hell of a lot more than honda, toyota, acura,....shiet......I say RSX.
(thats from a VW guy.)
