GTI vs. RSX-S
thats my dilemma. i'm trading in my civic, and had my eyes set on the RSX-S, but totally over looked the VW GTI VR6. now i dont know which one to get, RSX-S or GTI VR6. the GTI is a little less in price, but not that much of a difference. HP is the same on both, but the GTI has more torque. the RSX-S seems like it has a nicer interior and bit more classier than the GTi. so now i dont know which. what would you preferr?
Dude, it's totally up to you and to a certain extent, your driving habits. I have owned many VWs and now my 7th gen Civic.
Some considerations:
Interior: I will disagree with u on this; the VW interior is one of the best in their class, if not the best, whereas the RSX almost looks done by a domestic OEM. You just have to sit in both and compare the finish and the materials.
Engine: Both are very high-tech and powerful for FWD factory cars. RSX=high rpm hp...VW=low end torque that goes on forever.
Styling: Both are very good looking in their own way...If you could just get the RSX with the VW interior....hmmmm
Aftermarket support: Good developing support for the RSX, huge aftermarket support for the VW--everything from mats to turbos and superchargers.
Reliability: Some people, especially here will say VW cars are unreliable...I would beg to differ after owning a half dozen different models and heavily modifying them.
That said, these are totally different cars, yet so similar in many ways.
Edit: If you do get the VW and if you can afford it, get the sport suspension option, which includes 17" wheels.

Hey,
I would take the GTI, just to be different from the norm as most people would take the Type S. But the torque is higher, more spacious and 200hp is enough for me. Plus, it costs a few bucks less.

personally I looked at both...however I wanted a GTI 1.8T...simply because it was turbo and id love to hear the BOV sound...screw the VR6...i ultimately ended up with the Type S because my g/f preferred it over the GTI (and its an Integra, come on
)
Also I forgot to say....look how long the average dub lasts lol..I dont know any of my teammates who dont bust on how reliable there cars are

When looking at cars, i really wanted a golf, tho i couldn't afford a GTI. I personally would get a RSX-S over a GTI now. You will get better gas milage, while keeping high HP. The GTI will have better torque but the V6 model will be heavier also. Up to you bro.
id get the GTI 1.8T.......cuz the RSX-s is getting too common on the streets now.........and ive seen them run at each other on the track...pretty close race!!!......but the GTI won most of them against the RSX.......
If your thinking of getting a GTI, look into the GTI 337.
"a special-edition model called the GTI 337 will arrive with a six-speed manual hooked up to the 180-horse 1.8T, as well as 18-inch wheels, 225/45VR18 performance rubber, a ground effects kit, genuine Recaro seats and red accents inside and out."

Why anyone would want a pos vw over an Acura of all things, and an integra at that, is beyond my imagination. Their reliability stinks as a whole and they are well known for it. They have improved but they still suck pretty bad. If you buy a vw make sure you get an extended warranty and maybe think about moving closer to the dealer. Do some research on the net and you will find that vw is not where you want to be.

i would prolly go with GTI myself. it's a speedy car, my friend owns one, he said a simple chip mod will bring the car up to 220hp? and then the engine isn't so limited like the rsx, and i do like the gti's interior, great! my friend had his gti for 3 years, had no problems yet
My friend has a 94 GTi with 120K mi on it. The engine and transmission are original, and it runs just as good as the day he bought it. Only problem is the noise(older VW's have that problem). VW got a bad reputation n the 70's and 80's, but they have since brought their long-term reliability up to the standards of Honda/Toyota, and I would not have a problem with buying one, though their initial quality could still use a little work. It's just that the old image of VW seems to be stuck in some people's minds.
I'm not saying every single VW is crap, and if you have one that's never given you a problem, then that's great. But it is well-known that VW's have a greater than average tendency to have problems. And their dealerships are renowned for having some of the worst customer service in the industry, as well as unreasonable service and maintenance costs.
Consumer affairs has a huge section dedicated to people's complaints about VW's ... check it out. Some of those stories will make you cringe and think twice about ever owning a VW...

if the VR6 is the DOHC version with 210+HP then get that one...dont get the 174HP SOHC one...
otherwise get the 1.8T 180HP then work from there...both will smoke a RSX-S cuz the torque (off the line)

LOL...It's funny how much people rely on hearsay and what others say about anything.
It's all good I suppose...I have bought a lot of different services, appliances, services, autos, etc., which were deemed "substandard" or "unreliable" and never looked back. In the end, all that REALLY matters is your personal experience. Remember the "unintended acceleration" horseshit that Audi had to suffer through in the 80's? That allowed me to buy an Audi 5000 and a quattro coupe for next to nothing. So I say: Fvck all naysayers and go with what you like. There are so many laws and regulations protecting you that you would not lose money...maybe time but no money. Plus if the car fails to live up to quality/reliability standards, you can happily add yourself to the naysayers group.
Cheers

i went to VW and Acura dealership today. first thing, the people at VW aren't that great, customer service there is bad. second the interior on the GTI is not that great looking, compared to the RSX-S, imo. and the GTI just didn't look that appealing. i test drove it, i have to admit it is powerful, but i dont know something wasn't right. then i went to the acura dealership, first off the guy at the dealership was alot nicer and very helpful. the sitting in the rsx-s felt alot nicer, more comfy and better looking. and the exterior is alot more "exciting". so anyway test drove it, and its amazing. shifting is short and sweet and the engine sounds so nice, i fell in love. so the rsx-s is more my type, so i'm getting that, going on friday to talk out the details and place order. thanks for all your input.
does the interior of the gti look like jettas?
i like the feel of jetta's except that its tiny.
i've also had bad service with VW... two dealerships and they were horrible.
went to an acura and they were really nice. i've sat in the rsx-s and it was comfy, more roomy than it looks.
interior was awesome imo, pretty damn good compared to a lot of cars in its class.

Hey for every car company there are people who say that it's crap and people who say that it's good. We got some people who believe Honda ain't what it used to be (yeah right) and people who believe that these cars so reliable that they will run for a bazillion years.
Either way, go for what you like and if it's crap, then you can defintely say that you will never buy that again. It's as simple as that.
