Post 2010 Civic EX Air Intake

Being new to owning a car worthy of some modifications, I have a sudden interest in cars and how they work. As I start my quest to learn more about cars, the first thing I keep hearing about from experienced car enthusiasts are: Air intakes. Bare with me though, I am still learning.

First things first, is there a point? Some have told me that because I don't have the SI, there isn't much of a point to an upgraded intake.

Second, Cold air vs. Short?

Finally, should I go straight name brand intake/filter? Or off brand pipe with name brand filter? Any good less expensive brand you all like?

Air filters have no moving parts, so I would say it's ok to get a cheap off brand one.

I do not reccomend a cold air, its more stuff to break, it's gets dirty very quickly and it probably won't make a noticeable difference compared to the short intake.

It will also make more noise (air movement).

I have had both on civics and I will not get another CAI again.

Re: 2010 Civic EX Air Intake

I always go Cold Air over short. With an CAI you are actually getting a charge of cooler denser air so you should get more power. Faster throttle response is another benefit to any intake upgrade. The CAI on my civic has 1 extra tube over a short air and the filter may get dirtier faster but it is not difficult to clean.

Also cheap filters are no good. They allow to much dirty air though. Best to get a cheap intake, throw the filter away and get a nice one like an AEM.

Yes CAI makes more noise...sounds awesome IMO.
