But Hyundai does serve a purpose, as far as competition is concerned. If they up their quality to Honda/Toyota standards within 6 years, then you know Honda/Toyota will have to reduce prices just to compete.

top quality? are you kidding me. hyundai quality is DECENT at best. it is no where up where honda/toyota. why do you think they sell the car so cheap? think about it, if it wasn't for such a cheap price nobody would talk about it. if it was the same price as a v6 accord no one would even look at the thing. thats hyundais selling point, "cheaper than all the rest." they really are besides KIA. i don't even want to get started on that crap.

Big deal. The 10% ownership thing is probably for tax purposes. Chrysler, misubitish and hyundai have part sharing and R&D sharing agreements. They 10% ownership makes moving money around the three companies easier and less expensive. If you ever take an accounting class then you know when a company owns at least 10% of another companies stock, then there considered affilate companies or sister companies and are taxed differently.
For example if mitsubitsh and chrysler didn't own shares of each other at all, let say mitsubitish needs money and chrysler is willing to loan millions at a generous rate of 1% interest. The 1% interest is below prime rate of 5% and the IRS would tax chrysler in a form of a gift tax of the 4% difference.
Now since chrysler owns 10% of mitsubish, there considered sister companies, there no tax on the low interest loan.
Just because they own shares of one company doesn't mean they control how the company is run. Microsoft owns large shares of Apple, but Bill Gates doesnt tell steve jobs how to run apple.
