Edmunds Test: Sonata knocks Accord and Camry off their high horse

Personally, Im glad hyundai won. Competition is always good and with similarly equipped Accords and Camrys, you'd be looking at a price tag near $28k as opposed to $20k.

BTW, the new Sonata is built in the new state of the art plant in alabama.

Awesome!

Hopefully Honda will be forced to step up to the plate and bring back a better quality car for the PRICES they want lately. I have indeed noticed that Honda is pretty pricey for what you get. Competition is a good thing.

yeh for some reason, i think HONDA needs this smack in their faces. greedy marketing bitches for they take their reputation and customers for granted. given that HONDA has the reliability factor for years, they have been slacking off on giving the best for their customers. instead, they take advantage of their brand name reputation. HONDA just introduce a shitty car, with absolute **** features compared to the competition, jack up the price and voila... dumb consumers would buy it since it's a HONDA. glad stuff like these are coming up, so HONDA would step up their game and hopefully realize that inorder to compete, you actually have to bring a competitive car for the money and quality. this is good, give them bitches a big slice of "humble pie".

I still am not feeling the design of the Sonata. I've seen them on lots too. They're not that steller.

Overall though, I know its a value deal. I just wish they kept some design. They could have evolved the look of the last gen Sonata. I guess they decided to spend the money they would have spent on designers on other key ingredients.

i like the new sonata. I think the new sonata is what the accord sedan should've looked like. Hyundai actually got the butt right on that car.

If i were honda or toyota, i would get be getting scared. Hyundai is using the same formula the japanese companies used on the domestics. Offer more for less and improve reliablity.

Acura still uses that philosophy. Offer cars for more features and luxury for less.

Well, that is until they reach top-tier luxury status, which is what they're working on at the moment.

because your civic is so much better?

Lets not forget to mention that they did open a lot of jobs with their new plant for americans, while GM on the other hand, is closing plants and laying off workers. Yea hyundai sucks for doing their part in the american economy.

and you're doing a better job bashing them? You didn't even post 1 reason behind your moronic thought.

when have they lied about horsepower? I know Honda/Acura lied about the horsepower on my TL, but they did it in a good way (they rated it at 176 hp, but its really 190 hp at the crank).

What?!? The last one looked like tried to copy a Benz or a Jag. The current one looks like they tried to copy a 10 year old Lexus, or even a last gen Accord.

i agree, but the luxury segment is a bit different. In this segment, price isn't as huge of a factor when compared to the entry mid-size sedan market. I know honda is against rwd, so maybe they should offer more sh-awd options with there cars across the line. The tsx is a great car, but its not a 3series or the 06 IS fighters. I know the performance cars aren't going to sell as much as the lower end with the fwd, but it upps the Acura reputation then more then just a honda with a different badge.

The sonata got rated is one of the most reliable sedans for 04.

http://money.cnn.com/2004/11/08/pf/a...lity/index.htm

This isn't a honda vs hyundai thread. But not one can deny the but load of features you get for the money. For 20k you get a car with 263hp and standard side curtain air bags, thats faster and stops better then the 160hp accord or camry for the same price.

Yes a top end accord or camry would own a sonata, but there basically 30k. For 30k, you can buy a lower end 3 series bimmer.

Go do your research before you start bashing noob.

guys it is not a 263 hp car! its 3.3 liter 233hp car! yes the commercials said 263 but the truth is its 233. so they did lie! just cause a car is rated as reliable in the beggining dont mean it is. i would believe it in a long term test, but just cause some guy says "its reliable " don't mean im going to go buy it or believe it.

damn fvckers, we do love to argue in here.
i personally don't think sonata > accord/camry, there's no argument about that. but this meant to say that accord/camry are getting overpriced for what they offer. the article is about "what you get for the money". they are basically implying that for 20K sonata, you get more standard features than a 20k accord/camry can. now if you are going to compare top of the line sonata vs. top of the line accord/camry.... well let's just say, kimchi aint no better than a sushi. bwuahahahahhaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think the real point is that for what the cars are, midsize family sedans, the sonata is what everyone else should be offering pricewise. When you get close to the 30k mark, thats entering SUV or luxury market for a non-sports car. IMO, the accord and camry are for larger young families that can't fit into a civic/corrolla. The cars shouldn't be priced over $25k, v6/leather or not.

the 90s was a big jump in reliability for hyundai. They've come a long way since then.

The problem i see with this board, at least, is that everyone is so quick to bash hyundai.

What hyundai is today is what honda was in the 80s. In 10-20 years, hyundai might be #1 and honda/toyota might be where GM/Ford/Chrysler is. You never know.

120km? what is that like 80k miles? man. i didn't even know that hyundia existed back in 89. yeah i know alot of people that have crappy hyundais. o well. if they would smarten up they could afford a civic. anyway back to the point. specs can be specs, but in the real world i would own the accord. handling is handling, and reliabilty is reliabilty. i will say this much, the price is cheap.

would you pay close to $30k for an Accord though?

I can jump into an Acura TSX for $24k.

What car would i rather drive and be seen in? The TSX hands down.

im sorry but i wasnt in this conversation but i think you went too far with your post. now tell me how can a company like honda/toyota that have one of the highest "dqr" in the world get worse??? they can only improve in the next 10/20 years and yes hyundai did make a nice car and they can and probably will improve but saying that they will be #1 is a bit tooooo far fetched.

i said might! you never know.

Who would have thought that Honda/Toyota would be so big in the US in the 80s? Now look at today, you can't go anywhere without seeing a honda or toyota.
