<< I've already got some stiffer springs (GC coilovers) and adjustable struts - that should be enough. The new motor shouldn't weigh more than 50-60 lbs. more than my existing engine. I'll see what ImportBuilders thinks about it, though. >>

I forgot to mention brakes.

Man, you have big cojones to try this.
But anything can be done when you put your mind to it, be sure to record all steps pictures and notes.
Make and sell the HOW TO manual, may be make some of your money back.
You are an inovator for sure.
I'm so looking forward to see the end result, I'll fly to Houston to check it out.

Mex - Why fly, we can take my car. Already told him I am stopping by when this gets done, and I am not Bullsh*tting either. I want to see this, and gather up as much information as possible.

Htown - So the only problem this shop sees is the immobilizer? What are you doing for fuel delivery? I don't remember seeing any of your posts saying you got the RSX fuel pump and related accesories.

I think we'll be able to keep the stock fuel pump/regulator. For a turbo, you need a higher capacity fuel pump to deliver enough gas to keep up with the 2x (or more) air you're forcing into the engine. For a NA engine, both ImportBuilders and Carboy both think that the stock fuel pump should work fine. Now when/if I decide to turbo the K20A2, then I'll most likely have to get an RSX fuel pump.

About the immobilizer - ImportBuilders told me to try to see if Greenleaf can ship the immobilizer ring (small piece containing the keyhole) + the key (preferable, but not absolutely necessary). This would save a few hundred bucks and about 5 days worth of time, according to Jeff. I called Greenleaf today, but Mark Dovell was out. I'm going to try again later today... man I sure hope they still haven't ditched that car yet. Jeff says that as soon as they know whether or not Greenleaf can ship the immobilizer ring/key, then they can officially begin.

I'm definitely going to follow the swap closely and I'll take as many pics as I can. Some of the nitty gritty details (like wiring connections and stuff) I'm not sure if I'll be able to document. Jeff was telling me how his mechanics are top-notch and are able to bypass most wiring difficulties by using their own proprietary methods. From a broad perspective, I'll be able to keep abreast of all problems they run into and how they were able to solve them. But like I said - the small details will be handled by ImportBuilders and as such, it is entirely up to them whether or not they would like to make the knowledge public domain.

I don't have any problems with anyone coming down to see my car, just let me know ahead of time so I'll be sure I have some time. At the end of September I plan to join the South leg of the NOPI Nationals caravan that drives to the NOPI Nationals Supershow in Atlanta (Sept. 21 and 22). I'm not sure how far ATL is from Florida, but it might be easier to meet up at NOPI.

But first things first, I'm just concentrating on getting the swap done. I'll be in southern Cali for the entire duration of the swap; ImportBuilders said they would be able to get it up and running in about 3-4 days, but I would like to leave a buffer of another week or so just in case. I was planning on leaving sometime this Sunday or so if everything is A-OK and arrive sometime on Tuesday (April 9). But I absolutely have to be back in Houston the weekend of April 19-21 because I have friends coming from out of town. So if things somehow slip by a few days and I'm not comfortable it will get done in time for me to be back my the 21st, I might postpone the trip until immediately after April 21. I should know within a day or so what my definite plans are.

Good, I travel a lot with my job, so I can go just about any were any time (plenty of flying miles)
NOPI will be a great meeting place.

And you are right, concentrate on that good stuff that you'r doing now, I hope you get it right the first time.
It seems that you'r doing your homework ahead of time so we are very confident you'll get it done.

God speed

htowncivicEX, have you thought about using the JDM Integra Type-R transmission instead? Its got MUCH MUCH better gear ratios, and comes with a pure gear driven helical LSD stock ( what Quaife/Torsen makes )....

Also you may want to upgrade to the 22mm rear anti-sway bar that the Teggie-Type-R uses also.

Just thought would help you...The guy that can obtain it for you is:

Richard From www.importdevelopment.net .

Thanks for the tip - this is definitely an intriguing idea. Do you happen to have a list of the exact gear ratios for the Type R? There is someone on Club RSX who is currently trying to swap a JDM transmission into his Type S right now. Another alternative is to just buy the Quaife LSD when it comes out for the Type S.

When I was talking to Jeff about 3 weeks ago, he mentioned how a friend of had already obtained a JDM Type R motor. He said he was going to try and see if the guy would swap his Type R motor for my motor + a few hundred bucks or so. It would definitely be 10x cooler to drop the Type R motor into my car. Keep in mind this was only a possibility mentioned by Jeff offhand, so let's not all get too excited about it

I talked to Greenleaf today, and it turns out that they don't have the original Type S anymore, so ImportBuilders is going to have to order the immobilizer keyring thing. This will add about an extra week onto the timeframe, and it is doubtful they'd be able to finish in time for me to get back to Houston by April 19. So I've already informed them that I'm headed to LA immediately after the weekend of April 21.

I smell articles with Honda Tuning, Super Street, Sport compact car, and Import tuner in your near future when you pull this off. Mind if I give em a call.

No seriously tell them about this.

also when your car is in the shop would it be ok if I dropped by to be a looky loo? I live about a half hour away and know where the shop is. Lemme know. You'll be my new best friend. Heh

The gear ratios for the JDM 2002+ Integra Type-R are as follows:

3.583 Reverse
3.266 1st gear
2.130 2nd gear
1.517 3rd gear
1.212 4th gear
0.972 5th gear
0.780 6th gear
4.764 Final Drive Ratio

I found them at: http://www.honda.co.jp/auto-lineup/i..._r/grade-data/

Ok here's the latest update:

Everything is set for them to start the swap. I am leaving Houston sometime early next week for Fullerton/Los Angeles. I talked to Jeff Schaeffer from ImportBuilders on Wednesday, and he told me that one of his mechanics just got called back by his union to work at his old job. Jeff says that this is setting his shop back "like 200%" and that right now it's impossible to give a firm date on when the swap would be finished. The only thing he can guarantee me is that they'll try their best to get the thing done as soon as possible. All of the pre-swap stuff has already been done, so hopefully it won't take more than a few weeks.

What I was originally going to do was just stay in the LA area until the swap was finished, but since they can't give me a definite timetable, I am just going to fly back to Houston after I drop the car off and then fly back to LA once they are done. Since I won't actually be in LA when they are doing the swap, unfortunately I won't be able to take any pics. However, I will be talking to Jeff regularly to get updates on how the swap is going.

And I know that until I post the following, thoughts are always going to linger in the back of someone's head. Soo.....

The VIN# for the original 2002 RSX Type S where the motor was taken from is JH4DC530X2C003506. Right now I have an acct. on carfax.com that anyone can use to check vehicle history reports. This acct. is good until May 19, 2002 and is accessible by going to www.carfax.com, clicking on 'Account Holders' at the top right of the screen, and entering aaronechang@email.com as the acct. name.

You will see that the vehicle was bought sometime in September 2001 with 10 miles on it by an individual in Baton Rouge, LA. He/she drove it until December, accumulating 3800 miles on it until he/she got into the rollover crash. The car was most recently bought with a salvage/junk title, which means it was definitely not stolen.

BTW anyone can also use my acct. to look up VIN# reports for any other car.

Cheers,
Aaron
