I am very thankful for the long reply message you've written on this thread. Moreover, it's even nicer to know about your swap process..I'm sure it'll be very useful to everyone.
I'm not rich..but I'm sure that I'm gonna work my ezz out someday just to get my civic to be like yours..I'm still a student and that really slows me down a bit..need to find some way to make money fast..heheh..I don't wanna be lost behind and just sit there n' wait for the price to get lowwered..lol..
Anywayz, thanks again and best wishes on your swap..and please...get a Dyno when it's done..I'm sure it'll be on everyone's most want to see list..just for a little kick..it'd be cool if you gonna do your Dyno at CARBOY once it's all done nicely..hahahhh..imagine that..no offense to CB or anything..I live near CARBOY and go there very often..got most of my stuff from them too..lol..yeah I trust a shop with reputations.

doesn't seem like anyone else is interested in the rsx engine on ebay, that's a shame, it's only 2,000 now, but who knows what the reserve is...i'd love to try the swap, but a lack of funds and trustworthy shops around me impair any such endeavors...peace

This weekend i went to a car show in tampa honda land and i talked to a guy there that sold engines he was representin JDM Club He had a 4 door turbocharged h20 or f20 i dont remeber with alot of ish done to it i asked him if he could get a hold of a jdm k20 and he was like sure i can get it whenever you want but i dont know what the point of its for... he swears that the swap is impossible that the wiring is tooo complicated and etc.... he said hes heard of people dropping the engine in and it just does not work he said he sold one to a guy not so long ago and he still cant get the thing workin. But i think the swaps possible in fact i wanna do it with a jdm but he wants 8 grand for the engine and all, but im thinkin wouldnt it be hard with the immobilizer and whatnot cause its jdm and well you can figure out my question htown you think you could shed some light on this? oh yea and i figure since i damanged my crossmemeber i might as well wait another 8 months or so to fix it cause i could just replace it with the rsx crossmember since ill be in air force and have all kinda money to spend

Well the wiring issue was one of the main stumbling blocks for Carboy. When I asked IB how they were going to handle the wiring difficulties, Jeff said that it was a piece of cake and that they 'laugh at wiring issues'. I forgot the exact details, but Jeff was telling me how IB had a proprietary method of directly wiring the engine into the wiring harness in a way that eliminated almost all of the difficulties that other shops would encounter. When I spoke to him last week, he again reiterated to me that the wiring was not going to pose a problem, and that everything was labeled and diagrammed and ready to go. I then said something like, "Well that's good, because Carboy said that they weren't able to figure out the wiring for the engine swap." And Jeff just chuckled and said, "Yeah well some shops just don't know what they're doing."

The swap is definitely not impossible - it's just that no one has done this before, so there is no existing knowledge out there to draw upon. Whichever shop completes this swap first is going to have to do some pioneering work on both the wiring and the chassis modifications. Some shops are very good at following directions for a time-tested process that's been done a gazillion times (like any of the B-series swaps or the H22 swap ). But when it comes time to do something that no one has done before, most shops simply can't do it and the first reaction for them is just to say "oh that's impossible".

I was pretty sure that Carboy was up to the task, but when they balked, that's when I knew that I needed to find a unique shop with both the expertise and the ***** to take this project on. It was pretty clear that any old local performance shop who puts in springs and installs exhaust systems wasn't going to cut it. With all due respect to the other shops in Houston and in Texas, I didn't feel that any of them was as well-qualified as IB to do the swap.

About the JDM DC5-R engine - $8k is definitely a hella lot of money. I think somebody on Club RSX is selling a JDM engine (no tranny or ECU) for about half that price. The USDM Type S engine/tranny combo can be obtained for around $4500 to $6000 nowadays, but if you've got your heart set on the JDM engine I would wait a little bit or at least shop around at different places. About the immobilizer system - rightnow I'm not certain if an Acura dealership is able to cut you a new key with a JDM engine / ECU combination. I would definitely check into this before buying a JDM engine kit.

im sure i can get the guy down on that price on the jdm engine but the thing is the whole immobilizer deal. and to tell you thr truth im bout ready to drive over to socal just to get a k20 in my car im dedicated lol. of course i would do this because if they did it to your car the can do it again and again ... the thing is how much they gonna charge you said 2k but that sounds weird id figure they charge like 4k all together??? i wanna ask ya some more ?'s do you got aim? or some kinda instant messaging... and i finnaly reported my car so it looks like im just gonna get it fixed up now all kitted up hopefully and i can deal with the rims/engine part in a year or so.

Thanks a lot man..just go ahead and click on "my cars" link if you wish to see some more pics of my skyline kit..well the whole body kit is the same like that CivicChick..except the grills..I did a lilltle bit more than just putting on the kit itself cuz after I messured the car's width and the hight..I fount out that just put on the kit is gonna make the new civic look "fat" like a lunch box..so I also got the car some custom made wide body fenders both at the front and the back..you probably can notice the back but you gotta look real carefully on the front ones cuz I didn't want to make it too much like red out of the blue..anywayz, thanks again and go ahead check on the link I have down here..
Personally, I don't believe all those crap about how bad the fiber glass body kits is..of course, if you got the cash, better to go for the carbon and fiber ones or even better ones..I didn't go for that cuz I couldn't find any C&F kits..well, I've been driving pretty carefully with my kit on the car and the Eibach 1.5 inch drop..notice now that the kit is only about one Nokia 8260 phone hight above the ground..still scrached the hell out of it and so far..no crack at all!!! If you really wanna see the difference..you gotta wait till the winter comes..but I live in the South so it's not gonna be very cold in the winter which is perfect..ohoh, forgot to mention it: I'm gonna try to find a body shop to put a "bottom protecting" piece of sheet metal under my front bumper to protect the kit from scraching..think I could do it by myself but I'm not really sure..never done that bebore..I've checked..all the rally cars have that kind of thing all over down at the bottom..I'll try to post some pic whenever I get that done..if I came up with that much money of course...hehehh.
well, I think the kit is just what makes the new civic special..it looks great..more like mean I'd say..now I need some bad *** huge rims.

Hope that helps..

We were looking to get it finished by the end of next week. I've been pretty busy lately, but I'm supposed to give Jeff a buzz tomorrow to find out what's the status.

ok k20A2 swapped has been done in phoenix, and let me just say it was disappointing. Not sure, what that guys deal was, but he owns one of the shops here in phoenix. Anyway, his best was 15.4 at 90 on slicks.
He raced at fireburd raceway

So a 15.4 is the best he could do with 170+ hp to the wheels and drag slicks?? Are you sure he swapped in the Type S engine? Maybe it was the base RSX engine wth an automatic transmission

Ok in the past few months the swap has already been completed by a father/son pair in Houston, some dudes in North Carolina, the aforementioned shop owner in Phoenix, and has already been swapped in AND turbocharged by some guys in Puerto Rico. But of course we have no dyno charts and no pics for any of these cases.

I talked to Jeff yesterday, and the RSX crossmember has been ordered but hasn't arrived yet.

sorry to leave these details out, it was not a coupe, it was the brand new civic SI. and yes it was the type S motor why would you swap the 160hp motor for another 160? I expected the car to hit 14.8-15.0 at least on slicks. I'll snap a few pics this thursday of the car if the guy shows up again with it at firebird.

The type S motor produces 200 hp- 170 at the wheels, the SI engine is 160hp- 140 at the wheels i think..................
