But it would be the 2k1 that set its foot through the door for swapping engines. It'd be an honor
Frankly, If I had the money, Id try for that Type R motor posted by emma

>>Like I said man, you got BALLER status if you do that!!
No more excuses, guys.
I just bought the K20 motor from Mark. He agreed to end the auction early and sell the motor to me. I just finished signing the papers and faxing them back, and the deal is done.
I've spoken to a few Acura mechanics around the Houston area, and they all agree that the K20 will bolt right in to the 7th gen Civic (the 7th gen Civic and RSX both share the same engine chassis). The only question is whether the engine connection wiring may need custom work or not. Carboy (performance shop in Houston) told me to bring them a copy of both the 2001 Civic and 2002 RSX electrical manuals, and they will see what kinds of modifications (if any) need to be done. I'll also need to get an RSX fuel pump/regular to bolt into my car (I should be able to get one for pretty cheap, according to the Acura mechanics).
The engine is going to be shipped to Greenleaf's warehouse in Pearland (southeast of Houston), and I'm going to bring my truck down there on Friday to pick it up. I know I've had my heart set on a custom turbo for quite a while, but this was a deal I simply could not pass up.
I know a lot of you guys are going to ask questions like, "Why spend all this $$ on a hybrid, you could have had a new Type S." "Who buys a new car and then does a motor swap?" First people are ******* the motor swap because they say it can't be done. Well now that it has been revealed that it CAN be done, and there is a K20 available, people are ******* it because no one is trying to do it. And now that someone is actually doing it, I'm sure there will be lots of people ******* me for trying to do it. So please don't ask me any questions on why I'm doing it (I will just refer you to the dozens of threads already on this board). You can't please everybody, and I don't have the slightest intention of trying to. This is something that (to our knowledge) has never been accomplished before, and I love the idea of being able to drive the ultimate sleeper car. The DOHC iVTEC is definitely an easier platform to build power on, and although I have no doubt that aftermarket companies like HKS will eventually be able to make the 1.7L SOHC engine fast, it will take a little while.
The motor swap should be finished in about 2-3 weeks at the very most. I'll keep you guys updated on this project.
Regards,
Aaron

Some more details about the motor - it's taken from a 2002 RSX Type S that was wrecked pretty badly in a rollover crash. Obviously the motor, tranny. and drivetrain components are still in fine working condition. Greenleaf is giving me a 6-month warranty on all the parts, which basically assures me that the engine and all the components are in one piece and in working order. With < 4000 miles on the motor, it is basically a new engine and I don't anticipate having any nagging problems with it that are usually associated with higher mileage engines. I doubt the original owner has even done a single oil change to it yet.
They are in the process of removing the engine + components right now and will ship it out sometime today.

the swap will work, just checked out and rsx side by side with mine and all mounts will work, only the header situation might be a problem since it is on the back of the engine. i am so jealous! i am gonna have to wait 3-4 years before i can get a CRV engine in mine (162hp/160lbs). Congrats!

good luck man.
my hats off to you. whether the project goes smoothly or not, because this is requiring you to invest lots of money, time, and energy.
I hardly give compliments on this board, so you should feel honored. heh.

Three things were clear to me: 1) I was pretty dead set on getting the K20 motor, 2) I didn't want to get into a ridiculous bidding war with the other guys, and 3) I didn't want someone to use Buy It Now to take it. Prior to closing the deal, I had been calling Mark several times throughout the day to ask various questions about the motor kit (condition of the components, how did he obtain the motor, etc.), and I made it pretty obvious I was a serious buyer. I was debating on whether to just ante up $6500 to end the auction instantly, raise the bid in small increments and run the risk that someone else would Buy It Now, or just bid the reserve price (which would take away the Buy It Now option and then possibly open up a crazy bidding war).
Around 6 or 7 pm, while I was sitting in my 01 Civic stuck in Houston traffic, I finally decided to call up Mark and asked him how much $$ it would take for him to end the auction and sell the motor to me directly. He said that since the motor was basically new, he would sell it to me no lower than the reserve price of $5500 (the Buy It Now price was $6500). So I went ahead and bought it right then and there. In summary, I basically did the equivalent of Buy It Now, but I saved a grand by cutting out the middleman (eBay). I came, I saw, I conquered
.
The entire Monday I was basically in and out of my office all day making cell phone calls to Mark, Jacky at Carboy (shop that is going to do the swap), and an engine mechanic at John Eagle Acura. I probably got a total of about 2 hrs of real work done the entire day LOL Well, at least now I have the K20 motor and can now get some productive work done. (Yeah right, then why am I sitting here typing this msg right now?)

I don't have any pics up on this board yet, but I've been planning to take some pics pretty soon (I never seem to have a digital camera handy right after I wash my car). In summary, my car has this done to it so far:
Ground Control coilovers
Koni yellow adjustable struts
Ingalls front and rear camber kits
GReddy EVO exhaust
Tecnomagnesio Sport 17" carbon silver rims (when they get dirty and dusty they look like gunmetal LOL)
Yokohama AVID H4 205/40/17 tires
Carbon fiber altezza tails
Clear headlights
AEM short ram intake (it's actually a cold air intake w/o the second pipe put on, because the backup battery to my alarm siren is blocking the pipe path)
Revotechnica short shifter
Red mugen shift ****
I'll borrow my friend's digital camera and take some pics after I wash/wax my car this weekend.

hehe, nice nice, so you obtained it at 5500, thats actually a reasonable price if you take into account condition and the relative newness/rarity of the motor, still a helluva lotta cash though.. but hey, if you got it, like i said you'll definitely be on the cover of import tuner, honda tuner, super street, sport compact car... once its done, if you're still the first guy doing it, then i'm sure the fame will pay off somehow, hehe

Labor on a motor/tranny swap typically will run you anywhere from $800 to $1000. I'm still waiting for the 2002 Acura RSX electrical manual to arrive (should come Thurs. or Fri.). I'm planning to take the motor/tranny/components + 2002 RSX electrical manual + 2001 Civic electrical manual to Carboy sometime Friday night or Sat. morning. Then Jacky will do some research into what kinds of custom wiring (if any) needs to be done. After he does that he'll be able to give me a quote on the labor.

I dont see any one doggin' ya... personally i'd FAR rather have a 2k1 civic with an RSX Type S engine in it than just the RSX. The looks of our cars has me hooked and theres no other car i'd rather look at. CONGRATULATIONS htowncivicEX... you are now THE champ. I cant wait to see the final product and hear some storys about u dusting Si's and RSX's without a problem. BTW your turbo hopes are not lost... get the greddy turbo thats comin out fer the RSX.
