DOH! time to get a new cluster
DOH! time to get a new cluster
me=04 coupe
okie dokie, i was clearing up my needles (i painted them red from the orangish color) so that they would be clear. but then i didnt realize that the rubbing alcohol that i used to get the paint off would damage and eat away at the plastic of the needles. then the ends of the tach and speedo needle snapped off!!! crap....
since ive screwwed around with my gauges enough (bunch of scratches everywhere too on the gauge faces), ive decided its time to geta new cluster. but not just an 03-04 coupe cluster to replace it...
no
ive seen pictures of 03-04 Acura EL gauges and they look good. even though its the same layout, i really like the metallic color of the gauge backgrounds and the amber glow. it just looks more "Honda-ish" than the American coupe gauges (i never liked them too much for some reason, but i LOVE the EL gauges, 03-04 years only). since its just another 7thgencivic basically (the EL) they SHOULD fit, right?
RIGHT?!?!?!
oh yeah, does anyone have a picture of a M/T Acura EL 03-04 only gauges? they seem to be different than the automatic ones in those years in the color they glow and the color of the gauge faces....

Heres one from an auto 01 EL, so you can get the idea of what they changed
I don't see why it won't fit in our 04's, everything looks the same.
But good luck finding a cluster, its hard enough to find a 04 civic cluster
yeah master i realize that, and im ready to live with KPH readouts (im in the US). i REALLY love the M/T gauges on the 03-04 (the second pic that gotboost posted). the color scheme is a lot like the RSX/Si gauges, which is what im goin for. but ive got a auto, so the only thing that wouldnt be complete would be the shift selector readouts, but i can make myown LED readouts later on. itll fit right?
and besides by going up there myself, how would i order it? could i get a repair shop down here to order the parts from cananda?

Your best bet is to try to find an Acura dealership that will ship parts for you...although I dunno what laws there may be regarding export. Just go to www.acura.ca to try to find a dealer, preferably the one closest to your location, to save a few bucks shipping. Good luck.
BTW I know the 01-02 EL's and Civics share the same plugs, I'm iffy on the 03 and 04.

so having an 04 coupe, i can either swap out an 03 cluster, or just get an 03-04 EL cluster, just to have something unique

That's what I meant to say - I'm unsure if the 03 EL plugs are the same as the 03 Civic plugs, and if the 04 EL plugs line up with the 04 Civic plugs. I really would have liked an 04 cluster.
hey i got another idea. do dealerships' parts department offer to sell only parts of the cluster itself (ie JUST the gauge faces and needles and light diffusers behind the faces and not the cluster as a whole)?
the only problem i have now is broken needles and screwed up light diffusers. chainging the gauge faces would give the new look im goin for...
buyin a new cluster just seems real out of the question now. what $300 new?

ooo goodie. but they'll overcharge me like crazy huh? but has anyone run into this kind of situation (not specifically with gauges but with like real specific parts) where they needed like a part of a part? any problems with buying form the dealerships?

You have to buy the whole cluster. Sometimes ebay has good deals. That's where I got my second one. Oh and btw, I have some leftover needles from an 01 cluster. I could take pics when I get home from work. I think I have the two big needles (clear), but the other small one is orange plastic and broken anyway.
maaan im going for a new gauge look. why dont i just get an Si cluster and rewire the pins....
if i had both pin diagrams, it would work, right? then i would just have to compensate for the smaller size of the cluster right? has ANYONE ever heard of this being done befpore?

Big job if you get into molding stuff together. You better learn how to fab pieces and such. Won't be easy at all. What happened to the one you had? I thought you liked it all red. Try a junkyard and get a cheap cluster.
since its all sunny now gearbox, the red didnt show up good at all in the daylight. could barely make out the readouts. i thought going back to stock was gonna be better visibility wise. plus i kinda miss it. i thought of clearing the needles for a cleaner look but just screwed it up. gahhh!!!
if only i could get the inidividual parts...
all i would need are four needles and the three new gauge cluster faces from canada...

I dont know how Honda dealers are but i actually could and did order specific nuts, bolts, seals and clips for my mazda. Basically andthing on the car you can order form the dealer. BTW your going to have a hard time finding a wrecked 04 civic
Don't go to a dealer, they will date rape you on prices any chance they get.....keep searchin ebay, or call some Canadian auto wreckers, you might luck out and find a wrecked EL....Carconie's in Ontario is huge...I can get the # if u want...just pm me....That's where I got my RSX sway rear sway bar.

I have the cluster 'got boost' posted in my 02 coupe. Got it off ebay. It still has the mph in smaller numbers too. Everything works as it should. I want to know how to wire that led to my alarm.
