Help me trick out my 2004 civic.

I just got a brand new civic and I was hoping I could get some advice. I want to try to squeeze about 40-50 HP out of the 1.7L VTEC. Is it possible? I am totally open to suggestions - I don't want to add nitros. I would be willing to put a turbo on it, maybe get a K&N intake, I could get a better ignition. I was surprised that it comes stock with headers, I didn't realized they were doing that now. Anybody know how long they have been doing it? I see a lot of people get a strut bar - what exactly does that do? Anyways, sorry to be such a newbie, I sure would like some help. Thanks

welcome to site my man... as for 40-50 hp ... turbo kit... or do a k swap.. other than that you can try all the possible bolt ons, but that will get maybe 10 hp max... ours car dont really respond well to them... nitrous is proably your best bet...

give me me your tail lights....
nah.. jes playin.. unless you're really gonna replace them with other tails..

anyways, an intake/headers/exhaust might be good for starters... or you can go turbo right off the bat..
and just FYI, all cars have headers (if i'm wrong, correct me and show me a car with no headers, except pure electric and solar powered cars).. headers are just exhaust manifolds; they give the exhausted gases a place to go...

intake/header/exhuast will add 3-4 horse power if you're lucky. so far there is nothing oyu can do to add 40-50 hp to the D17 unless you turbo or hook up nitrous.

if you're going for speed, I suggest just boosting the car. Instead of wasting money on I/h/e just save all of it, and invest it in a turbo.
