2019 1.5T engine reliability question

I've never owned a Honda before but I am seriously thinking of buying a new 2019 Civic Touring sedan when they finally come out. I also considered a 2019 Accord but it looks like it will be even longer before they come out so I think I'll go with the Civic.

But I have researched both cars quite a bit and I have found some disturbing information about the 1.5 Turbo engine. I keep reading about the gas/oil dilution problem in the CRVs but have read it also transfers over to the Civics some as well. I really don't want to buy a car that has big problems from the beginning. I have not read about this being a problem with the 1.5T engine in the Accord.

Is there anything to this? It looks scary to me.

Thanks for your help.

Ah, they are doing much better when they moved from McLaren to Toro Rosso.
Wait, you are not talking about Formula 1 engines?

Re: 2019 1.5T engine reliability question

Been driving my '18 Sport Hatch for almost a year now (will be 1 year on Nov 11). One oil change, not even a hint of fuel smell in the oil, though I didn't send it in for UOA, but no problems thus far.

Re: 2019 1.5T engine reliability question

I apologize in advance for not having a better understanding of the issue. I came across this reported oil dilution problem after I purchase my 2019 Honda Civic LX.

So am I wrong to assume this a primarily found only in the 1.5L Turbocharged Earth Dream Engines. I ask because my engine specs seem to suggest that this is not an issue for my vehicle. I am hoping someone could provide me a wider understanding and more specifically if this effects my Engine.
My Engine is a 10th Generation Model K20C2 2L 4 Cylinder DOHC
The vehicle was manufactured in Alliston, Ontario
The fuel Delivery/Fuel Injection Type states a SFI or Sequential Fuel Injection
Oil Recommended 0W 20
However it does have a label on the engine cover that states, "EarthDream", and this is what has me confused/worried. Earthdream designated engines have been sighted as potential sources of this issue.
Does this engine suffer the same oil dilution issues as I have been reading about.
Secondly, can it not be mitigated by more frequent oil changes. Say every 8000km instead of the 12k they seem to recommend

Thanks
Lymer

Re: 2019 1.5T engine reliability question

I don't think that the K20 engines that are used in the LX and Sport 10th Gen Civics have any oil dilution issues. My understanding is that the problem was with the 1.5 L turbo that is in the EX and higher sedans and all the hatchbacks (plus Accord and CRV). And I believe that anything that has the Earth Dreams name on it -- including the normally aspirated 2.0 (LX/Sport sedans) has direct injection.

I could be wrong on this, as I'm sort of new to Hondas, so maybe someone else will straighten me out on this.

Re: 2019 1.5T engine reliability question

HI - did you end up buying a 2019, with a 1.5 turbo? I'm thinking of getting a 2019 civic hatchback with the 1.5 turbo in it. Any advice?

Re: 2019 1.5T engine reliability question

Almost 38k on my 2018 hatch with the 1.5T and I'm still loving it. Been running a KTuner (Mostly 21psi tune, currently running Phearable's tune with the 24psi map -- have been for about 4k miles now) for just over 26k miles now without issue. Matter of fact, with that 24psi tune, my current tank is hovering at around 40mph on the dash, maybe 75% highway miles.
