Can you start with the main relay jumped ?
Can you start with the main relay jumped ?
i'd like to know is if it is possible to start a healthy running 5 gen. Civic with the main relay pulled and a jumper wire in the main relay plug.
why ? well....
When i jump the main relay plug, i hear the fuel pump kick on, but the car does not start despite having spark ( weak, but enough to fire )
This would point to the fuel injectors as a possible problem, but if this were the case then the main relay should kick the fuel pump on, but it's dead silent and without current to the pump ( tested at the pump )
I tested the main relay for continuity and it checks out fine. I have a brand new one ( perhaps 150 miles ) that has the same symptoms.
I checked the ignition for continuity today, and it's fine as well. :hothead:
I started a thread on it here, but haven't had any replies.

Re: Can you start with the main relay jumped ?
Only if you know what you are doing. The PGMFI main relay is a dual relay.
Get a wiring diagram and look.
One set of contacts (jumper terminals 5 to 4) powers the fuel pump,
the other set (jumper terminals 6 to 7) powers the ECM and some other things, like the injectors and the O2 heater.
It can't run without both of these powered up at the same time.

I may be saying the obvious. THough as a college student I can understand budgets.
Why not just replace the thing?
I have re-soldered the points on my for good measure but i wouldnt bother jumping it.
