300 whp Civic build- Help
Hey guys. So currently I have a '96 Civic with a D16y7 non-vtec and auto tranny.
I'm wanting to make about 300whp (going from roughly 106 lol.) I'm just curious, what're some of the best ways (swaps, F/I&Swap, internal work etc..) to go about reaching this number?
Like my name says, I'm new to this so any information will help
Thanks in advance.

Whatever you get, you would have to do some head work for an all engine build, or you will have to go forced induction/nitrous. An engine swap would be necessary too. Neither of these are noob level mechanics.

you got a lot of different setup and choices to choose from. you need to sit down and really think about in more details on what your looking for other then wanting to have 300hp under your hood. like mad dog said N/A setup needs lots of head work to make those numbers. on a FI setup is pretty easy to do but you'll need to be on point with tune and fuel system

OP wants 300hp on an automatic transmission.. those stock auto trans. can barely handle the stock SOHC grocery getter. lol. Hardshifts anyone?

Most drag race cars are automatics!
Also it sounded like you where suggesting that doing a manual conversion, was all that is necessary.

we just have seem two more with failed auto trans with around 100k miles, so they are fragile, even at stock power. some seen to be lucky and get far more than that, but the percentage is far from negligible, unfortunately.
mot a 6th gen, this is for 7th (which are worse, I will give you that)

Re: 300 whp Civic build- Help
here, my reply to another thread. Don't go lightly into J-Swaps
Ah, I did google about J swaps, but did not see any 7th gen.
Also, it did seem that they are swapping the whole power train (not sure what is needed, engine/trans mounts, wiring harness, mounting points, hacking engine bay, modifying the half axles to fit the trans to the suspension, etc)
PS: instead of asking, I highly recommend reading the stickies in the top, also google - there's a 14 page thread in another forums, BTW...
after reading all, then you start making more informed questions, not random ones. Honestly. If you are in the internet, it's a click away - much easier than nactually doing it. If you wait us to mouth feed you, it's not likely you will end up finishing the job.

It fits, many J engines make around 250 and can handle 300. Autos are often faster on the drag strip, so it really depends on what he wants to do. I would get a manual for the twisties though.
