Hx vs Ex vs Si suspension

Hey guys, I am new here, but not completely new to Civic's. My little knowledge is of the 5th gen Honda Civic, I do not know too much about the 6th gen civic, yet, so please bear with me. Right now I drive a 5th gen Civic Ex coupe that I had lightly modded including springs, shocks, rtabs, balljoints, tierods etc...

Now, I am thinking of selling my 5th gen Ex coupe and picking up a 6th gen Hx coupe. If I do get the 6th gen Hx, I plan on taking a good look at the suspension and replacing worn bushings, balljoints etc, and was wondering, since I'd be dealing with the suspension, if there would be any type of gains of switch to Ex or Si suspension components. Do the 6th gen Hx coupe, Ex coupe and Si coupe all have differant springs? shocks? sways? If so I'd assume the Hx would feel most plush while the Si feeling the most sporty, and the Ex in between. Are the springs/shocks/sways actually differant? Would Ex or Si coupe springs/shocks lower the Hx coupe at all?

Re: Hx vs Ex vs Si suspension

Anyone have any insight on this? Do the Hx, Ex, and Si coupes have differant springs, shocks and/or sways?

I'd be interested in putting Ex springs shocks and sways, or Si if they are better, onto an Hx if possible. Or maybe aftermarket springs (like OE Sport) and shocks plus Ex/Si sways.

Re: Hx vs Ex vs Si suspension

Don't buy an HX if you want any sort of performance. It is the fuel economy model that offers some of the luxuries (if you want to call them that) that the EX offers over the DX but still has the black trim vs the body matched trim. SI suspension is tuned for a heavier front end. If you put the SI suspension on, your car will sit higher in the front since your motor is much lighter. Not sure what you are looking for here, but hope that helps.

Re: Hx vs Ex vs Si suspension

The Si did come with a more 'sporty' suspension all around. It has whats called a 'double wishbone suspension'. Stock, it sits around a 1/2" lower than the ex, hx model, but it also has a heavier engine.

I would lean more towards an aftermarket suspension. Koni SRT.T shocks are a GREAT O.E. replacement and would look and ride really well with some Eibach or Tein springs.

Re: Hx vs Ex vs Si suspension

All 6th generation (96-00) civics come with double wishbone suspension. You are party right in that the Si have slightly stiffer spring rates than the HX and EX. The shocks are all the same.

Like ^^ mentioned, grab some SRT.T's (Koni), and H&R makes OE replacement springs that are slightly stiffer than stock, barely lower the car (0.25'') but are guaranteed to work with any OE replacement shock and add that spiffyness that most people look for when they wanna replace suspension components but dont want anything crazy.
