Drivers side manual door lock

Just bought my '97 Civic LX a few months ago, and love it. However there's a really annoying issue that is bugging me -- the drivers side door has to be manually locked when exiting the car. I've been told this is a "feature" so we don't all lock our keys in our car -- but it's just annoying, and I'm wondering if there's a way to get rid of it. Thanks!

Ok thanks, well, that's more than I knew! But is there a way to disable this completely? Sometimes I'm juggling bags, dog, groceries, phone etc, and would like to just lock the door. You know, like you can in any other car Thanks!

Re: Drivers side manual door lock

It all has to do with the latch mech.... not likely any way to modify it easily.

Or pull the inside handle and push the lock button.

No, you can't change it unless you want to re-engineer the entire door latch.
Honda did this for decades on the drivers doors, and it's explained in most owners manuals.

You know, like you can in any other car
If it was like any other car, it wouldn't be a Honda!
