Talking LED Thread!

If your anything like me, then you love LED's! And I figured, instead of a specific LED project, why not make a thread about LED's in general. Ask whatever questions you have, post pics of LED projects you've done, answer any questions if you know them..

All I know is.. I recently did a trunk LED project *thank you again Kenny for the help*, and I wanna do more.. and I figured, I'm sure others have questions, so here we go.

Re: LED Thread!

here's my question. has anyone, or does anyone know how to, hook up an LED light strip in your glove box, with a switch connected?

how would you do this? can you do this? and can you "tap into" wires to do this? and if so, what wires? i'd basically need like a play by play to do this, so feel free to write as much as you want about it. more info i have, the better it is. thanks!

Re: LED Thread!

buy yourself a multimeter. Especially if you're gonna work with electronics, it'll be your best friend. I forgot which wire I tapped, but I had a few blue LEDs lying around, so I mounted them in my center console vents. Now, when my parking/headlights are on, my center vents glow blue

I also got bored last summer and made an LED strip (box, rather) that reacts to the beat of music. Only downside is it requires a music input as opposed to a microphone picking up sound. It's not quite in my car, but i made it for ***** and giggles.

what is a multimeter?

i wanna know more about these vents.. feel free to share what you did. lol..

and thats cool about the beating to the music, i got 2 neon tubes under my seats that beat to my bass.. love em.. but they are hooked up to a cigarette lighter extension thing under my seat. i was thinkin about gettin one with 4 sockets instead of 3, and gettin 2 more tubes to put on the back sides of my seats, to light up the back floor board more.. still thinkin bout it.

Re: LED Thread!

a multimeter has a few uses, but mainly you'd most likely use it as a voltage meter. It'll tell you which wires are hot that you'd wanna use to tap for power.

The one I use, I got at lowes for.. $30-$40? Something like that..

Re: LED Thread!

jeez. i gotta play catch-up here! ive always loved how these look, and everything you guys have looks great! i am curious though, how do you hook them up behind the vents like that? i'd love to get some blue ones and pop em in there. but no clue how. and is there a way to run them all to a single switch?

i also like how you guys have the AC control lights lit up too.. any info on that too would be great. i'd like those blue to match all the other blue.

thank you again for sharing, and cant wait to see more!

Someone sent me a DIY link to make a VU meter, which is REALLY interesting.

@civicchick
If your dad was an electrician, just ask him if he has a multimeter laying around, im 100% certain he has to have at least 1.

Re: LED Thread!

those are sweeeet

im diggin the pink plate lights.. too bad we cant have that stuff on our cars.. legally.. :/

i also like the LEDS up around the guages.. how exactly is that set up? are they inside with them? or outside of it? i haaaate how my guages are. so boring and just crappy lighting. everyone on here seems to have these nice pretty red/blue lit up outline, with white clean and clear numbers. mine is just stock, black, and the numbers are lit up from some light behind em i guess. no LED at all im sure. i wish i had some that looked like urs. but for manual trans..

and hey, is there a way to.. i guess splice.. into a wire thats pluggin into a cigarette lighter? example.. i have my 2 neon strips under the seats that beat to the music. but, can i take like an LED strip, strip the wires, and expose the wires to the neon, and connect em? then tape it all up? i was just curious about that. let me know if u know
