ugh, somethings wrong, need help...
ok, up until today, i thought that my HEX components had wicked nice midbass, but i was wrong, they should have MORE. i heard a set of M6 components that had more midbass than mine, and 2 sets of HEX's that have TONS more than mine. so i examined mine for a bit, they are installed in kickpanels, which shouldn't be the problem because one of the HEX sets i heard were in a maxima that had q forms also, and they sounded really good midbass wise, almost sounded like there was an 8" sub in the dash or something.
the only thing i can think of is that the high pass filter on my amp is set too high, its at approximately 75hz. so turn it down a little right? wrong, the speakers start popping, too low, so i turn it up, no midbass at all, its too high. then i realized that all the other guys had JL amps, one HEX owner had the new "e" series 2 channel amp, and the other HEX and M6 owner had a 300/2 each. i have a diamond audio d5 600.4, can it be that the xover on my amp is messed up, or just plain crap? is it worth asking my local shop to swap out my amp for a 300/2 or something, so i can see if thats the case? (they will do it, i'm good friends with them, but i dont want to waste there time on something thats not the problem)
please advise, i'm getting a little annoyed that my speakers aren't producing the great midbass that they should be.
btw, they're not out of phase, thats something i had checked a while ago.

Have you asked the guys at the shop what they think? I know somebody else who has the same diamond audio amp and I think his setup sounds really, really, good so I don't think it would be the amp. Maybe try some tweaking on the headunit. See if your friends have tweaked the sound settings on their headunits. They may have something turned up a little bit to give more midbass
id start at the headunit, then ask yoru friends to try swapping out teh amps, and finally, id go back to the install board to try an fix things.
you cna get more midbass response from yrou hex's by sealing up the kickpanels.make them tiny sealed boxes and i guarantee that will bring out some midbass.
but i f you cna solve the problem without resorting to that, id probably take that route first, deck tuning or amp swapping

well i tuned the deck a bit. i am work right now, so i didn't have much time before, but this is what i did. my HU doesn't have a high pass filter, only a low pass, so all i was able to do was adjust bass gains, frequency, and q factor. my bass was at +3, so i went down to 0, then i set the bass frequency from 50hz to 80hz (120hz is another adjustment i can make), finally i set the q factor to 1 (also can set it to 1.25, 1.5 and 2). i then went back to the amp and turned the xover frequency down. without actually having the manual with me, i dont know the exact frequency i set it to, the amp doesn't have the frequencies labeled on it, i need to consult the manual to see what its at, but i believe it at around 60hz. there is a noticeable difference, more bass than before, maybe not as much as those other guys, but more than before. sometime this week, i'll head down to the shop and test out a couple different amps, see if it my amp thats not right.
any other things i can do? i really dont want to fiberglass my kicks, i dont want to go through the trouble.
can it have anything to do with the fact that i'm running 300watts rms per side? i have the gain down low, i dont want to mess them up, but what do you think?
