Amp with Factory Head Unit

Hi All,
I'm planning to install an amp to run a pair of 6" subs in my rear deck. I have most everything figured out, except, where to connect the Amp Turn-on wire. Does the factory radio have a power-antenna control wire? The antenna on the car looks like one that may be amplified, but I can't be sure.

If there isn't a place, I may wind up just making a signal detector to auto-power-on/off the amp.

Any reason why you want to retain the factory head unit?
You could get a much better deck with hands free, Bluetooth, usb, aux, etc for a little over $100

Turn on wire can be run off switched ignition power from the head unit. That's where I powered mine from. It needs very little current, its just a signal wire.

I prefer a factory look, in every car I've ever had. The subs I've installed (already installed, running off head unit) are in factory speaker locations, and fit under the rear shelf without any obvious changes. I didn't even have to enlarge the holes.

I know it's just a signal wire, I was just hoping to still have it turn on and off with the radio rather than from ignition. I guess I'll just use a separate switch - I might even be able to make it look like it belongs.

Depends which body style you have. The coupe has an amplified antenna, the sedan does not.

I have a Hybrid (Sedan). Is it possible that the radio still has the output, even if it goes to nothing?

Re: Amp with Factory Head Unit

Wiring diagram does not show one........but there are a few empty spots on the connector for the radio so it's possible the radio has a terminal that still has the function....
How complicated do you want to make this? lol

Re: Amp with Factory Head Unit

Generally, the remote turn-on wire can be wired to anything you want (to an extent of course). The factory radio should have a wire that powers the head unit when the key is in the on position, so I would tap into that. Or you could do what I did when I was afraid of tapping into the factory harness and find a fuse like the cigarette lighter fuse and wrap the wire around that and stick the fuse back in. I don't recommend doing that though.
