My guess is you tapped into the wrong wire for the AMPs remote turn on. Maybe an ignition wire, you should tap into the Amp out or Power Antenna wire (AMp out if using an aftermarket stereo, powered antenna if using the stock stereo) this will turn the amp off when the stereo is turned off.

Any questions, feel free to im or pm me.

Tap your remote wire (that's the blue one that goes to your amp from teh HU, or elsewhere) and tap it into a switched source. There's a blue one in the wiring harness on an aftermarket unit, but if you're going stock you'll want to tap into something such as the accessory wire in the car's switch, or into the positive wire on the accessory plug/cig lighter.

Well, if he taps it into the accessory wire, the amp will still be on when he turns off the radio, he wants to tap it into the yellow/green powered antenna wire from the back of the stock hu.

He has the stock hu.

The ACC wire. The one for when you have the key turned to the ACC position. It only gets power when the switch is in the ACC position or is turned on/running. Also, if it were me, I'd tap into the cig lighter as it's the easiest to get to, especially if everything has already been put back in. You only have to pop that one panel off and bam, there you go, wire in an easy place.

But he doesn't want it to stay on all the time! Tap the power antenna wire.

You know, I feel dumb now that I read this... I was thinking he was having an issue with it killing the battery when the car was off... That's what I get for multitasking and reading 4 threads on 3 boards at once... Yes, the power antenna wire. If you don't know which one, get out your DMM and find it.

An amp can be on and not make noise, so i doubt it's the remote turn on. It sounds like a bad ground to me. Is it an MTX or Sony amp? those are notorious for doing that when poorly grounded.

Also if he uses the power antenna wire I believe the amp will shut off when he switches to CD mode.

In most cases your right, but the ones in our car, Civics, stay on. At least in the 02 EX they did, and I dont imagine they changed anything.

Its good for us, and probably just less circuitry Alpine had to use when Alpine made our decks. You can also throw that wire into a relay and up the power to it if you dont think its enough.
