9835/33 question
9835/33 question
Who ever is running an Alpine 9835/33, do you have Media Expander always running? I've tried eq'ing with out the MX on, but it just sounds too flat for me.
I know everyone's eq setup is different due to other audio equipment and car in general, but what are your eq settings? I'm getting decent low and very good high end, but no matter what I do I can't get my mids to sound good at all.
Thanks for your help,
Craig

Aww, come on. Its warm out today. And it may even hit 40 this week
edit: I checked it out. You are correct. Its going to stay cold for a few days. I think I'll fill up my tank today because I'm going to run out tommorow or thursday and I'd rather pump gas at 36F than 19 or 21
P.S. man I love auto start on my car this time of year

The Media Xpander is basically a sound quality enhancement that has different settings depending on the source. On mp3 and XM, the audio is compressed across the entire bandwidth, resulting in a sound that seems to lack high and low frequency definition and clarity. The Xpander gives a slight level adjustment to these frequencies giving it a "live" sound. On Cd's it effects lower frequencies only, and on FM it effects vocals.

^ What he said....
I have the Meida expander running at times, but most of the time my EQ is flat. I tend to turn it on when on the highway where road noise can intrude into the cabin.

There is no way to manually adjust the dimmer unless you disconnect the dimmer wire, then set it to auto, and it will always be on "bright" and to get it to dim, you switch it to manual.
On CDS the MediaX is a problem for me the way it effects lower freqs like Mass said. It jacks with high, low, mid balance that I have set with my amps. For that matter, I always defeat everything I can on Headunits and try to use the most raw signal I can til I get to my amps. Originally developed to compensate for the compresion loss of MP3 formatted music, Media Xpander just seems to act like a "loud" button when I use it on MP3s. Personally, I think the loss for Mp3s is minimal when good quality Files are used and my system sounds quite good with any "Xpanders" of any kind, thank you very much Alpine. Can't blame ////Alpine for adding features, but I personally hate mediaX.
Well since we are back on this topic... I dont use any EQs or the MX feature. I think I only used the MX once, and that was for some shoddy mp3 cd I burned, which I replace rather quickly with a higher bit rate cd.
From what the manual explains, MX is intended for compressed audio sources - I use it only with MP3's and with Sirius radio. If you do a side by side comparison between MP3 and CD on a high enough quality system (even with higher bitrate MP3) there is a noticable difference in the sound quality - to me the MP3 sounds "flat" and MX helps compensate by boosting high and low end.
i have the MX on when i listen to the radio cause it takes out some of the static. i generally run my EQ flat but i do have the highs tuned up a little and i have crossovers for the front speakers.
