my 12v/memory wires carry no charge

car: 2003 Honda civic Coupe EX
story: so i get this car a month ago and it has no faceplate to stereo (pioneer deh-1600) when i bought new faceplate, i take stereo out and the harness is gone as well. after new harness comes i try to hook it up.

sources: i identified the wires from here http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/....asp~TID~64482

all the wires match up with what is hanging out except for i have a lone red wire(no clue what that is), and a yellow/green wire instead of the white/red

problem: the yellow/red 12v cable is already connected to a red aftermarket cable (i assume from the origional pioneer harness) so i connect them to my new harness.
the main issue is the white/red cable (that is supposedly my memory cable) is not there. instead there is a yellow/green cable hanging. i connect that cable to my memory (yellow aftermarket harness) wire and nothing. so i use my voltimiter to test the currents. and there is no current on the yellow/green wire, OR the yellow/red wire. however when i connect the positive lead to the cigarette lighter (also yellow/green wire) i get my 12v reading with the key in acc or in off pos. i assume i can hook up the memory cable to the cigarette lighter(i have not tried this yet, as i am a smoker and prefer not to lose my cigarette lighter) but i am still not getting a charge from my 12v switched!

btw it is almost 100 degrees out so simple fixes are preferred

i assume it may be possible the fuse is out on my pioneer head unit causing it not to power up when connected.

can anyone give me a list of things to try BEFORE i have to shell out more money? (i.e. a new fuse)

i will try to get pictures asap! who ever did this originally really messed it up. it appears someone tried to steal the head unit (hence why the harness AND faceplate were gone)

soo it was a blown fuse. i now get my 12 volt reading off of the yellow/red cable

however still no charge off of the yellow/green cable.

the unit will still not power up. any help anyone?

According to the link the grn/yel wire is the speaker wire so your not going to get a voltage reading. You can run a 12V power wire straight to the battery if your white/red wire is not there. As for the memory you can splice into another wire that gets hot after the ignition is turned on. The memory wire does not draw much current so it should not overload the cigarette lighter circuit even if you are using it the outlet.

as far as running a wire straight from the battery, im somewhat hesitant.
first of all if voltage screws up, im not keep in ripping everything out just to replace the fuse. also would that eventually drain my battery?

Is there a place i can tap into the fuse box for the memory wire? that way i can simply replace the fuse in the fuse box than rip out my Head unit assembly?

Re: my 12v/memory wires carry no charge

Factory WHT/RED = Constant 12 volts / YEL/RED = Switched 12 volts.

The dome circuit has a constant voltage source you could use for the memory lead.

Double check for the factory WHT/RED.

Edit: Fuse #3 7.5A under dash box = constant power for dome. WHT/BLU at dome or ignition switch connector are constant power.

Re: my 12v/memory wires carry no charge

Yes your memory wire will eventually drain your battery but it would take a while. The power wire only drains your battery when the radio is on. Your memory has to stay hot all the time so wiring it straight to your battery or to the dome light doesn't matter cause it is going to be drawing current constantly to save your settings. The memory wire does not have to have a fuse just the 12V constant has to. The memory draws maybe a couple hundred milliamperes, so there is no need to use a fuse for that. I only have a fuse on my 12V supply and it is behind the head unit.

Memory = 12 volt constant power source.

An inline fuse close to the source tap is always a good idea on any voltage supply wiring. No fuse and your wires become the fuse.

Re: my 12v/memory wires carry no charge

Yea sorry for the confusion, memory is constant 12V, I meant only the supply 12v needs to have a fuse. A fuse only protects against over current and if your only pulling milliamperes then a fuse is just extra. In my opinion it is not necessary for the memory wire but if you feel so then I would. I have never used one on a memory supply and have never had a problem.
