So I've been itching to get a system in my car for a while now and I found a great deal that I couldn't pass up. I got a Rockford fosgate 10in P2 in a ported box for 80$ and a jl audio 250/1 with most wires for 100. So I get home set everything up and nothing. I double check all the wires and make sure they have great connections and everything is set up as needed. and still nothing. I don't have access to a meter until next monday and I kind of want to get all this fixed up before then. I've done a couple of searches and most said it was problems wit the RCAs. I unplugged the one I was supplied and plugged in some extras I had layin around and still nothing. Oh and the amp powers on and stays on but no sound comes out of it. Do you think it could be amp related or speaker related or maybe both? Thanks.
If there is no sound at all even from your exsisting speakers then it is most likely the amp and what first came to my mind would be your REM wire that connects your amp to a 12v power source to turn your amp on when your car is on to keep it from draining your battery. Your setup should be like this Amp connected to a ground , to your battery and a third REM wire connected from the amp to a 12v power source. Then from your amp you connect the RCAs to the Head Unit. And from the amp to the speakers/subs your gonna be running on your amp.
make sure you have your remote wire hooked up to the right wire on the back of the headunit. should be blue and say either remote or constant voltage.
Sorry I guess I should have been clearer but. My normal door and rear speakers work fine. The only thing that doesn't make any noise is the sub. So tonight I'm having a friend of mine come over and we are going to put my sub into his setup to see how it sounds. And if it works then probably switch out the amps and see if it pushes it as well. And the I have it grounded correctly and power wire hooked up correctly. And the remote wire (blue wire) from the amp to the head unit hooked into the remote wire from the back of my alpine. So the amp turns on when I turn the car on and turns off when I turn the car off. I reall don't know what else to try except try to hook my amp and sub to my buddies system and see if they push any bass out. I kind of remember doing a set up on my buddies neon a long time ago around 06-07 on his neon and we had to hook his remote wire from the amp to 2 separate wires on his aftermarket deck I think was a Sony to get the sub to push out any bass. But I could be remembering wrongly though.
Jump a wire between the remote and +12v source. If it still doesn't work your amp is bad or your wiring is wrong. If it does then your remote wire coming off your headunit is most likely bad. Hook it to another source (cigarette lighter or HU power).
If the amp comes on, the remote wire is working fine. No need to jump it. Make sure the RCAs are connected to the sub out. Make sure the sub out is enabled on the head unit. Easiest thing is to do a quick swap of the subs with a known good system to rule that out.
Make sure the LPF is off on the amp.
Just some easy places to start looking.

ok on your checklist i already did checked the RCA's to make sure there on the sub out and nothing, then i made sure that the sub out from the headunit was activated and it was and nothing. and what exactly is LPF? Is it amp LP filter? if so i had it set to 12dB. Here is a pic of the back of my amp 7
just noticed that the powering kit that i have is 10gauge instead of 8g. Would this cause a problem with it not powering the sub? in the amp manual it says that a minimum of an 8g wire is required but i could go as big as a 4gauge wire.
Lack of power from small power cable can affect louder volumes, but you should still get sound.
You will want to upgrade to a larger wire. 10 is too small for an amp, but that is not the problem here.
12dB is OK for the filter but for now turn it off.
Set the Bass Control to off.
Set your input Voltage to low for now (don't know what head unit you have)
Set signal sensing to off.
Turn input Sens to the lowest setting (counterclockwise)
Make sure your RCAs are connected to the Amp Input section and not the Preamp Output.
It doesn't matter which pos and neg you hook the sub wires to. They are parallel inside the amp.
(the next steps are taking into consideration that you have verified by some other means that the sub actually works)
Turn the volume on the stereo to about half to 3/4. A loud but tolerable volume (you are not tuning the amp so the level isn't that important here)
Turn the sub output on the head unit to max. At this level you should feel some movement in the sub cone.
You can try turning the Input sens **** clockwise.
If nothing, turn it back counter-clockwise and switch the input voltage to high and turn the **** clockwise.
If nothing, then the output chips in the amp are fried.

Ok I think we might have found the problem. When I hooked in the RCAs into the amp input Connectors the amp power light wouldn't turn on. So I took them out and plugged them into the pre amp output and the amp power light turned on so I thought those were the right connectors. Any gueses to why it does that? Bad ground, remote or power hookups. Or maybe just bad RCAs?

If it wasn't turning on I'd say the ground.Originally Posted by mikereynolds9

Connect the RCA's to INPUT of the amp, and turn OFF the signal sensing
Also, make sure your remote wire is properly hooked up

I think I was doing more of a face slap after that move lol

Nope not yet. I did the first set of your checklist and came up with nothing. The amp still doesn't power on. I've tried to different set of RCAs and that doesn't solve the problem. Tomorrow if I get some time I think I'm going to try a different ground spot and see if that helps.Originally Posted by Kennykid2002
