I am keeping the HU but installing an aftermarket sub/amp via splicing through the speaker wire to connect the LOC, however this would be pointless if there are built in subsonic filters on the stock amp/stock HU.

Anyone know if Honda has these filters in their premium system?

Re: Does the 08 ex's premium sound system have subsonic filters?

I do not THINK so.
Both my 2006 LX and my 2014 EX work through LOC's without any issues.

While I can't specifically say for the '08 EX, because my '06 is an LX, I'd probably reason that if my '14 EX does not have them, then the '08 wouldn't either.

But perhaps someone else can say for sure.

Another question would be, what is your alternative?
Not sure how well versed you are with car audio, but you could always do the splicing behind the carpet so it doesn't show, and just wire everything up and see what happens.

My alternative was to just buy an aftermarket HU since I haven't purchased the LOC yet, but I would prefer to keep the stock HU. I mean yeah I could splice the wiring right before the amp (if that's what you meant by splicing behind the carpet), but there's a possibility the stock HU has a built in filter that would still send a filtered signal to the sub, making it pointless.

Re: Does the 08 ex's premium sound system have subsonic filters?

Also, when you say your equipment works fine with LOC's w/ the stock HU, what kind of music are you listening to? Does it reach very low frequencies? My situation might be different because I listen to a lot of electronic music and some hip hop which dives deep in the frequency range (25hz-35hz) so subsonic filters are my worst enemies haha. I know rock and country are mid based, so you may not notice the [possible] filter if you listen to genres like those.

Re: Does the 08 ex's premium sound system have subsonic filters?

I listen to everything from 60's rock to dubstep.
And just about everything in between (Excluding country, rap, and the genres that branch off of them)

Nero sounds amazing in both cars.

EDIT:
In my 2014 I know for 100% certain there is no filter.
I actually lose some bass notes in some of the Nero songs if I change my Alpine MRX-M110 amp's subsonic up over 10-15 hz.

And this is what I mean by splicing behind the carpet:

Ahhhhh love Nero. Okay, now I see what you mean with behind the carpet. Yeah I guess if the 2014 doesn't have any filters, there's a good chance the 08 doesn't have any either. I'd just hate to go through everything to find out my sub isn't pushing anything lower than 35hz.

Re: Does the 08 ex's premium sound system have subsonic filters?

Well as far as I know the difference between the premium sound and regular stereo in the 8th gens is that the premium has better speakers, and an amplifier...I think the unit itself is the same.
However a quick search on the honda e-store does show two different part numbers for the EX audio unit and the LX audio unit.

I'd still be willing to be that it does not have filters though.

Re: Does the 08 ex's premium sound system have subsonic filters?

You guys are getting my hopes up I just need that one guy to come out and say that it definitely does/does not haha.

I'm beginning to think there are no filters because when I play a song with very low bass notes, I hear my stock sub trying to hit those, but it can't and makes a very stale sound. I guess that means the notes are being sent, the sub just doesn't have the range for them.

Re: Does the 08 ex's premium sound system have subsonic filters?

A google search turned up some interesting things...
Apparently (from what I read) the premium sound in the Si has an amp that pushes the woofer. That amp DOES have a filter, and supposedly starts to taper off around 30 hz, will notes lower than 20 being practically non-existant.

However, the rear speakers have no filter at all.
Go figure. Again though, this is just what I read...no idea the accuracy, and if it applies to your car or not.
(The post did not even state a year)

Re: Does the 08 ex's premium sound system have subsonic filters?

Appreciate the research jordan! Okay, so if what you said is true, I guess I should splice into the rear speakers instead of tapping into the stock sub wires.

I thought that the speakers and sub were both powered by the stock amp, so that's odd that the speakers get full range but the sub does not.

I'll try and look into that. Thanks again.
