What speakers sound good w/ Alpine CDA-9835?
What speakers sound good w/ Alpine CDA-9835?
ok,
i have a 9835 and i need a no-sub setup so i'm gonna have to rely on speakers for bass...i currently have components in the front and shitty mtx 6x9's in the rear
so far from what i heard, deck w/ stock 6x9's produce tons of bass...MTX 3way 6x9's sound like crap w/ the 9835...sound is all distorted w/ less than 10watts going to the speakers...(and yes, the speakers are not wired out of phase)
btw, yes the 9835 is wired directly to the battery w/ the ground grounded on the grounding point behind the lighter socket...
anyways, does anyone know what 6x9's will produce a lot of bass when used w/ the 9835's internal amplifier?
i'm almost fed up enough to shove the stock 6x9's back in

they are distorting becuase the alpine is giving them **** power. probably a little becuase they are **** speakers as well, but don't blame the speakers entirely.
amplify them....amping speakers makes ALL of them sound better. Get rid of the blaupnukt pieces of ****....get a decent 4 channel amp....something pushing around 80watts to each speaker, and then get a decent set of 6x9's. You cant fail with alpine speakers. Ive mostly always run MB Quart.....but theyre a little pricey.

Were I you, and were I going to rely on the speakers in the rear deck and up front to provide me bass, I'd ditch everything you have now. Install a set of Adire Koda 6's in your doors and amplify them. Install tweeters of your choosing, and run them off the deck, this will keep them from getting too bright from amped power. If you'd like, however, you could buy an aftermarket crossover and set the tweets bottom octave around 5 khz and cut out around 20 khz. The Kodas are supposed to go down to 39.91 hz, according to the spec sheet, but realistically, I'd cross the bottom octave around 50hz. The only problem you might encounter is that I believe they discontinued this line. So they may be hard to find. If you insist on keeping 6X9's in the rear deck, and being as I figure you probably don't want to dump a lot of money into this, I'd look as the JL VR series 6X9 coax. Personally, I don't like rear fill, but being as you don't want a sub, but still seem to want the bass to be back there, these might be your best bet. However, if you're willing to modify the rear deck slightly, I'd bottom mount a set of Adire Extremis 6.8's back there. They go fairly low, and the reason for bottom mounting them is as follows. They have up to 1 inch of linear excursion. Top mounting them might make them hit the rear deck plastic. Another thing you'll need to do to accomodate them is replace the trunk springs with struts, so they'll fit, being as the depth on them is around 3.8 inches. I'd also use bolts and nuts to mount these in there, as they're rather hefty and drywall screws might not hold. Amplify all of them with an amp that puts out at least 100 watts per channel. The Extremis want at least 100 watts apiece, and the Koda's will be within the optimum range at 100 watts. You'll have to add a spacer to accomodate the Kodas, as well as cutting out the hole in the door a tad to accomodate the magnet. That setup would run you $80 for the pair of Kodas, $200 for the Extremis mid-woofers, and whatever you spend on the crossover and tweets. The JL's go for around $135 in most places, if you decide to go that route. And if you don't want to modify the front doors, I'd be inclined to recommend a set of JL VR 6.5 Coaxs up front as well($125-$135 retail), as the JL's reproduce the lower octave of the mid bass frequencies than pretty much any other mid's in their class. Coax's will keep the tweeters close to the mid driver for better imaging. Ditch the stock tweets with that and put a set of grilles in there, or buy some non-ex sail panels and replace your ex sails with those. Whatever you decide, make sure you amp them, as they will operate more to their potential then un-amped. if you do the Adire set-up, you'll have to amp them or they'll sound like a dying animal.
wow......someone got a little carried away. Just get a decent set of speakers, a decent 4 channel amp and youre done. No need for all that nonsense...its just not that technical...unless youre going for like reallly good sq.....but most people are content with just a basic set-up and it doesnt cost much at all.

Spoon, I can gurantee you that the set-up I describe above will cost less than a lot of set-ups you'd buy whether coax or component, yet out perform them in every way. The labor isn't that difficult to do, and a novice installer could do it very easily. I also recommended another more simple set-up of JL coax up front and out back. Please read before criticizing.
Yes, those 6.8's have a full inch of linear travel. They're awesome mid-woofers.
