How bad does Fatmat really smell?
Yes I read the Sound deadening DIY, but it's kind of a cluster fk. I don't feel like paying for Dynamat, but I don't want my car to stink either. Anyone know first hand how much fatmat smells. I'm open to all suggestios too. How bout a good website to buy it cheap.
all the asphalt-based deadening pads smell. (fatmat, dynamat, edead). the only mass-market pad I know of that is not asphalt based is raammat. I used it in my civic (also using edead) and it works, but it's a hair more expensive and a little harder to work with since it's thicker.

you know when they're doing new road and you get that smell like you can't breathe? That's what it is--tar smell. It gets less over time, but you will still smell it when you sniff closeby. I hate the stuff personally.

I used Dynamat exteme and Fatmat in my car...they are almost the same to me, but fatmat definently smells more.
If you don't thoroughly clean the area where you apply it, fatmat is prone to come off.

FYI:
Using two-to-three layers on critical parts (floors, doors, side panels, entire trunk (esp. wheels wells) Will take about 200square feet.
Believe me when I say that you want to do it all in one shot. I put down 100 square feet )some raammat, some edead) in the rear half of the car, and then 120 in the front (all edead) and it's a pain to have to take all the seats/carpet/panels/doors out. You can concievably do the doors and trunk separately, but the rear and front floors and side panels you should all do in one day.
